Having a friend to pirate with is way more fun than any ship.
Tons of possibilities open up

True. Was thinking to have a friend pirate with me, whereas I sit there with a smuggler id to collect the stuff that fall from the <strike>piñatas</strike> targets who don't pay up.

Pirates can use shire, which is pretty deadly but no CD...

What about the CSF? Or the Anki?

The restriction on generic IDs and Gallic weaponry and ships has been removed. You are free to move outside of Gallia with them. (smoke)
Where do you see that?

I'm looking at the chart, things like Freelancer ID and Pirate ID still have "Must remain in Gallia" on the "Civilian Gallic" column...

They're not green though, so require a request. And the FL ID still has the comment for several of them.

I have tried the Anki and would not suggest it. It might just be Xeno guns, but I found that it was terrible at both maneuvering and keeping up consistent fire. I have heard good things about the CSF, though. Never really tried it.

I would suggest the Dromedary, though. The level 8 gun slots are good for 3 Debs while you can mount six (I think) level 5 turrets for whatever faction you're playing. Hellfuries are beautiful on a Dromedary and for the brief time I had Recreant Turrets, I enjoyed using them on a Dromedary. Reasonable turning and a slim front profile make it excellent for shooting bigger ships, too.

I know a few good freighters that can make a good team when in pairs.

CSF and Bactrian are good choices for piracy, team or solo. You have no idea how many people you'll surprise with a fully loaded CSF that just tanks their fighters to death, before downing the transport.
