Have you an idea about the selling locations and its prices too? It is very inportant to balance them out.

Yes, I have ideas for both selling and buying points. Just an example, but lets say these could be possible buying-selling points in Bretonia

Buying- "Black Tea"
Planet New London (810)
Leeds (730)
Kensington Shipping Platform (790)
Luxury Liner Shetland (830)
Lancaster Trade Station (790)

Selling- "Spiced Tea"
Planet Cambridge (170)
Planet New London (240)

My reasoning behind the buying points was that the two main population centers of Bretonia would have a high demand for tea, and with New London having a higher standard of living than Leeds, its price would naturally be higher. I also put both the bases of Bowex and Gateway on the list, because those two companies would naturally want to encorperate tea into their civilian products supply line. Luxury Liner Shetland, being the premier vacation destination for rich Bretonians, would definitly have a high demand for tea, and the rich clientel and high defense costs associated with Edinburgh would drive the price up. As for distributors, Cambridge is the only place where Spiced tea is farmed in significant quantities, while New London still holds a significant store of tea to export due to it being a layaway for many forgien shippers going through Waterloo station.
I have ideas for the Buy-Sell places for the other houses, but the main area of my concern is the prices. I would appricate imput from someone who has experience balancing the economy, or who trades alot of commodities and has been around long enough to know how price balancing works.
Also, I know that there are already Consumer Goods and Food Rations items, but these are often low priced, and are so vauge that no one really knows whats in them, and are therefor impersonal. To those who were talking about having RP'ed tea in the past, let me be clear that this item isn't a single cup of tea; Its a large crate of tea leaves to be further distributed once it reaches its destination.

Now, I understand people's confusion as to why I suggested that there be four diffrent types of tea, instead of just one. The reasoning behind this is:
a) Diffrent people don't like to drink the same types of tea, especially cultures as diffrent as the four houses
b) Trade rouits become alot more intresting and exploritory. Because the entire rouit, dealing in all four types of tea, goes through each one of the houses, traders experience a rouit that is more diverse, as well as more realistsic (Basic consumer products often tend to follow large international routes, following multiple supply-demand chains instead of just one) I feel that this type of trading will be a lot more fun that the simple "Point A to Point B then back again" trading.

Comments are good, keep them coming, but please post more than simply "No" or "I don't want it." I'd like to know 'Why' you feel the way you do, so that I may improve the idea.

Edit: I guess, if you REALLY wanted to, you could break into a couple of crates yourself and brew yourself up a cup:)

Let it burn.

Interesting idea, but I have to say this, very few people trade in low value cargo, I mean there is almost to no one that does runs in food ration, its always going to be about power trade and I just cant see how tea going to make me rich.

and liberty doesnt like tea, they like coffee :P

Some drink their tea with sugar, so where's the sugar commodity? (^_^)

No offense, I like your idea a lot (if it's not only tea:D) but I think it's easier to RP tea with consumer goods or food rations or anything like that! ;)

I really like this idea. Being Chinese, I'm naturally supportive of seeing Tea being added as a commodity.

As for the Consumer Goods thing, I personally think the commodities in the game are too broad. I would like to see more specific commodities, similar to those that are in the very old, but very fun game, Wing Commander: Privateer.

Carlos Rivera: Corsair Brotherhood Pirate - Retired, shifted to Tripoli Shipyard's Research and Development engineering teams
Anthony Cameron: Guild Core Bounty Hunter - Killed in Action, committed suicide after being trapped in Omicron Minor following its destruction
Juan Ruiz: Outcast Ghost of Razgriz Pirate - Killed in Action, killed by the Sirius Coalition Revolutionary Army during Bretonian piracy raid
Michael Winchester: Liberty Security Force Agent - Missing in Action, likely killed during Rheinland espionage mission or trapped in Rheinland Space
Eric McCormick: Order Pilot - Retired, shifted to planetside training of new recruits

Liberty and Nomad Backstory, Very interesting - read it!

While I'm afraid you can't, you'll have to look back in history and see that, well:

Quote:For centuries, China had been the world's sole tea manufacturer. Britain purchased this fuel for its Empire by trading opium to the Chinese - a poisonous relationship Britain fought two destructive wars to sustain. The East India Company had profited lavishly as the middleman, but now it was sinking, having lost its monopoly to trade tea. Its salvation, it thought, was to establish its own plantations in the Himalayas of British India. There were just two problems: India had no tea plants worth growing, and the company wouldn't have known what to do with them if it had. The Chinese interior was off-limits and virtually unknown to the West, but that's where the finest tea was grown - the richest oolongs, soochongs and pekoes. And the Emperor aimed to keep it that way.

So, that said, if we can make a repetition of history here (being history/future nerds as we are), perhaps Tea can be a high-profit, but low-risk smuggling run from Kusari to Bretonia? I don't know, but I definately do know that tea is a worthwhile commodity that is critical to the social stratosphere in Bretonia. Tea is big business; it was when they were sailing seas, and I don't quite see a difference in this miliue when you're sailing through space!

Hmm... Regardless of wether or not tea actually gets made (Which I hope it does,) does anyone with knowlage of economic balancing in Discovery think that it's possible to get some trade routes going that arn't just "Point A to Point B," in a way similar to what I was suggesting for Tea?

So essentially the trade routes would be:
Bretonia -> Rhineland -> Kusari -> Liberty -> Bretonia ect.....

If you take a look at some of the other commodities, this is already the case.

Example:
Ship Hull Panels
If you want to roleplay that you want to help to produce more ship hull panels, you need to transport polymers, hydrocarbons, boron, basic alloys and super alloys.

Quote:Polymer buying points (selected):
Tsushima Depot - Rugen Station - Douglas Station - Planet Honshu

Hydrocarbon buying points (selected):
Birmingham Station - South Shields Refinery - Rugen Station - Douglas Station - Planet Quillan - Fuchu Prison - Briancon Station - Planet New London - Waterloo Station - Alesia Station - Planet Marne - Philadelphia Station

Boron buying points (selected):
Planet Pittsburgh

Basic Alloy buying points (selected):
Planet New London - Planet Gran Canaria - Planet New Tokyo - Planet Houston - Planet Hamburg - Beaumont Base - Planet Junyo - Trafalgar Base - Mainz Storage Facility - Planet Kyushu - Dortmund Station - Essen Station - Planet Holstein - Planet Cambridge - Osaka Storage Facility

Super Alloy buying points (selected):
Scarborough Station - Skye Base - Lancaster Trade Center - Trafalgar Base
And this is leaving out the fact that basic alloys and super alloys consist of other materials that you can acquire in Sirius.

And if I have missed the point, the last trade route for my indie trader character was
Quote:A: Alesia Station, buying Cryocubes
to
B: Saint Paul Base, selling Cryocubes and acquiring Synthetic Marijuana
to
C: Bethlehem Station, selling Synth. Marijuana and buying Helium or Neon
to
D: Planet New York, selling Helium or Neon and buying Luxury Consumer Goods
to
E: Planet Nevers, selling Lux. Cons. Goods and buying Consumer Goods
to
A: Alesia Station, selling Cons. Goods and buying Cryocubes
...
Nice little route, of course with the permission of the Gallic government to enter their space.

NOW, as you can see, you don't have to follow the easy A to B pattern. You just need to find a "trading loop".
