You misunderstood what I said.
If you don't have the crosshairs ("sight") on a rock, the lasers will be shooting in front of your ship. As soon as you put the sight on a rock (which is behind you), the lasers stop firing, because the rock is no longer in the firing arc of the (front-facing) weapons.

Thank you, that might be it. I'll just have a space donut and make a test flight to try it out.
Thanks for your patience.

How do you show those yellow fields on your map? When I click the Minable-icon on my map in Tau-23, nothing shows up.
I tried to go to those spots anyway, but received no yield when shooting stones with my mining lasers.
Sorry for all these question.. I've put quite a lot of hours to get this far and now I just can't get mining working.

You have to go "discover" the fields first before they'll show up on your map. Once you've been to about where they are, try clicking the "mineable zones" button on the map a few times.
If you're in the right place in Tau-23, there will be an IMG Satellite nearby--there's one at the center of each of those fields.
