Only Pluto survived the sun blowing up and since the sun isen't there any more for Pluto to orbit it would have flown off in some random direction anyway.

If we could get back to Sol the only thing there would be debrits floating around and probably a lot of radiation. So theres no good reason to go back anyway.

On a side note, acording to the original intro we do know that Sol was destroyed because a single person survived and told us.

There's really no point in adding in Sol. The Alliance doesn't want to return to a potentially dangerous Coalition-controlled region (remember, the Alliance doesn't know about Sol's destruction. I think that the single guy that survived was hushed up by the authorities upon arrival in Sirius). If for some reason it gets added in, it would be nothing more than Pluto, gases, and a ton of debris orbiting a white dwarf, which is what's left of Sol, if anything is even left at all.
