Space is dangerous. But then again, you are right, Battleships can ruin the fun very fast.

I will give you example with a fight that Corsairs lost yesterday vs RHA- we could put 2 no even 3 Solaris Osiris in that fight and win without problem, we fought fighter only and lost but this have nothing to do with RP, it is just a from of sportsmanship and respect to the Enemy if they deserve it since some definitely does not deserve it, but dont go we must win every time, this policy will make 3-5 better people in PvP to join forces together and make your convoys/mining operations even protected by solaris battleship and 10 snubs to fail.
Otherwise major kudos to your organisation skills and numbers. It shows that single pirates have little to no chance vs organised Miner/Traders and shows wrong the tons of pirate q-q topics.
Edit: This topic reminds me about the Gopnik leader who decided not to go full clan in Discovery because the clan have more members then the server slots. Sometimes you must restrain yourself in order to enable the other side to have fun too.
At least would be cool to fight against 4 people at the same time and not 8.

This statement, however, is false. IMG doesn't "go after pirates" as long as they do not have superior numbers, but once that happens you stop hiding behind Hood/Freistadt and go in guns blazing. You do hunt pirates (or at least Sails) whenever you have the chance and you never hesitate to join lawful forces in shooting criminals even when they already have superior numbers and/or they don't ask for your help.
Please note this is not Q_Q or criticism but just stating the facts.
I have no problems with ganks. But 8 against a single spatial is not only a gank, that is more an overkill and destroy every fun.
No Q_Q about losing, for this kind of problem exist a respawn button and I expect to die with my Spatial.
But that was not really fun anymore.

Considering most of the time the ganks happen at IMG bases that the pirates are attacking, I see no problem with it. Complaining about IMG ganking attackers at Java or Hood is like complaining about LN ganking pirates in Manhattan's orbit.
You don't attack a base and expect a fair fight, especially against a mining and trade faction.

We go after you guys once you're near our mining bases or mining fields, and once we're organized, yes. Basically, in Omega 7 and Dublin (and Tau 23 - but Sairs aren't usually there). If we don't you become a problem for the miners, who don't stand a chance against bombers. Have you ever seen an IMG raid into Gamma, or even Omega 5? They don't happen - we have explicit in-faction rules against that. Not to mention our ID forbids it:)
The statement was meant in the sense of - if we know there's a pirate ambush sitting on a lane in Omega 3, or Cambridge, we don't log a swarm and clear it. That's not our job (unless it's right in front of Aland). But if we see hostiles within scanner range of Freistadt, or one of our miners spots a raid incoming, then it becomes a matter of killing the pirates before they kill our miners.
@Jihadjoe: This thread was merely to give people a headsup on what to expect when you're attacking IMG| so that there's no hard feelings after the fact. Unlawful aces seem to be expecting one-on-one's a lot these days, and we're not going to play along in that demand. I'm as IMG|'s first in commmand explaining the actions of our faction to the playerbase so there's no misunderstandings.

I dont know if the Spatial mentioned here is the Corsair spatial that I saw, but I think I should point out that there was a Corsair Spatial camping Freistadt base together with 2 or 3 other Corsairs players, and that one got attacked by several IMG. The Corsairs were also "pirating" transports which had no cargo apart from a few units of RP cargo.
In my personal opinion, any gank is justified if it is against people who camp enemy stations. Not only justified, but well deserved. If it was a 3 vs 5 in the beginning and then ended up as a 1 vs 8 after the 2 others fled to minimize their own losses, makes no difference to me, as long as it is deserved. 8 vs 1 doesnt change the outcome, it jsut makes it faster.
I think people should differentiate between the situations when a so called "gank" occurs.
1 or 3 pirates pirating: Ok for them to do it, but dont complain when they get attacked by superior numbers of lawful, especially if they are a house system. Lawfuls are suposed to have the upper hand there and them not helping a trader to overcome the pirates is not only bad RP but also unfair to the trader.
4 or more pirates working together to pirate or kill lawfuls: Thats not piracy anymore, thats an insurgency, if its in a house system. The house lawfuls should use any means necessary to crush that.
1 or more ships camping an enemy base: Remove that ship, by any means necessary.
2 or 5 people looking for single players to blow up, single players who werent near an enemy base and who werent harming anyone and who cant defend themselves : dont do it.
Overall I would say, if you were the one attacking someone, dont complain if other people help him. If they do he probably had no chance agaisnt you because he was not as good at fighting as you. 1 pro vs 1 noob is also a gank, if the pro started it.
Of course there are always people who will attack 1 noob who has no chance, and then complain when people in his faction will try to save him.
There are people who fly up to the main planet of a faction, sit there in plain sight, shout "gank" when they get attacked, call their 4 frieds who were waiting just out of sight for that to happen, and then massacre everyone they see with superior numbers because "they got ganked".
There are even people who fly to the main system of an enemy faction, have official members of that faction on skype or pm, and make the official member hold people back from helping noobs of the system owing faction, so their friends in the enemy faction can kill noobs with ease and then brag about how they won although the noobs were in superior numbers.
The only thing you can do is ignore people who shout gank, really.
It not nice if people go blowing up single players with 5 friends.
But please, dont shout gank if you were the one that initiated the attack or were parading butt-naked in front of an enemy station.

I see no issue with this either, assuming the pirating means pirating with RP. The guys life and ship are at stake. "Drop your bots and bats" or "100k exploration tax" or even "Drop the (RP) cargo now captain" is all within the realms of reasonable in my book.
Yes, I am aware my book differs a fair bit from a lot of you.
