I have a proposal, it might not be good, but hey it's worth posting :) .

How about rather than system by system, if you wish to claim a system, you do have to fight from base to base BUT you are not capturing base by base, you are simply pushing your enemy back. The objective would be to push them out of the system, obviously you'll now say, well thats just the same as above. But what I am suggesting is rather than base by base, you are claiming the whole system, but the batle for it will not be held in one place, it will be held moving throughout the system, starting at some point close to where the invasion is coming from, the defenders must prevent the attackers from getting any further, and then push them back out of the system. Or the attackers have to basically do the same, pushing the defenders out of the system into the next system.

This would also make combat much more diverse, afterall, have you ever tried getting a Kusari Battleship through a trade lane. Don't bother, won't work :P . But I think if we had mobile battles people would have to use fighters, to keep things moving, it would encourage people to be different in the way they fight, it would also help bring back the light fighters, that I seem to be seeing less and less of, simply because they're so poor in direct combat.

The other thing I would like to see, is pirate factions being allowed to have pirate bases in the occupied area's. For example, if the Phantoms, wanted the Molly Huegenot in New London, they would be able to operate from there. This would add another aspect to the game, as you would have constant fights between the SF (owners of bretonnia - atm) and the Phantoms, both vying to destroy the other. Then should an invasion occur, the Phantoms could pick a side to support, either the attackers or the defenders, dependant on who they thought would be better for them.

Don't know what you guys all think, but I think it's a nice halfway between what we have now and the suggested idea. Any Idea's?

It`s just like my proposal, but s shorter variant. The same thing would happen, but faster. Altough we could mix them together :nyam:

It makes sense to capture base by base, afterall, during real conflict things dont happen in just one battle, they take time, and progression, I think the pirate thing would be cool too :P .

A compromise of the two would work rlly well :)

Like ive said before, i feel this system will only complicate things and people will claim to own things that they dont and people wont know who owns what, and it will just end up in a big argument.

alot of other systems use TE's ( territory engagements) to claim a base or system. They make a post on the forum claiming their intention to take a base or system and the defending faction responds to it. Both the attacker and defender set up a time which the engagement begins and the winner is the lucky one who gets to claim that base or system.

It sounds rather like everything else already spoken or possibly implamented already (not sure as I am new and havent read thru entire forum yet) but is the simplest way to claim a base , planet, or system.

Yes, but the old metod enables faction system overgrowth in a short time. :(

i like the idea, but like many others said before, it's too much paperwork and too complicated. But the old way of claiming systems allows the attackers to conquer systems too fast. My idea:
The systems will be separated into "core", which is usually the main-planet of a system, and the "outskirts" of a system. The attacker first has to fight for the outskirts, and the later there will be a final battle at the home-planet of the system. :)
it's just a idea to short the time systems can be claimed, but dont make to much paperwork. :D
