This is a very good topic you've got going here, LWB and Unioner lore is often misunderstood and deserves more attention.

Two things I'd like to point out about the LWB

1. You mentioned that there would be other companies competing with Synthfoods that the LWB could fight for. However, Synthfoods domination of Planet Stuttgart is so huge that over 90% of the farmable land on the planet is owned by Synthfoods, and the other 10% comes under contsant threat from bad weather conditions, Stuggart's altered atmosphere, and covert Synthfoods attacks. The legal farmers that the LWB fights for just can't compete with a company as big as Synthfoods. Most of them scrape by while sustinance farming, selling all their crop planetside just to make ends meet. The rest make hardly enough profit to hire a shipping company to sell their goods exclusivly. What little Stuttgart food makes it to market is probably sold via Republican shipping or Independant traders.

2. Also, the WVS was once the voice of the farmers on Stuttgart, and served to lobby for their rights and subsidies. However, after Synthfoods moved in, they simply bribed Rheinlandic officials and filled the WVS with their own lackeys. Thats why the LWB turned to violence; they no longer have a legal voice in Rheinlandic politics. Nowadays, the WVS serves to mainly rubber-stamp many of Synthfood's policies, and is a symbol of corruption for LWB pilots everywhere.

This is the extent of the issue as far as I know; I may be wrong. I hope this helped.

I got a lot of that from the wiki, mainly the anger the LWB show is due to the need to survive and a plain revenge on a system that stabbed them in the back.

Understanding all this, I ultimately wish there was some way to negotiate with these factions rather than having to defend against them all the time. I guess not everyone can have a communications command level like Captain Kirk and persuade these factions to let go and go on. But this does give me something to work with.

I'd like to ask another question, related to all this, but thats for another time and another thread.
