' Wrote:Basically, I'm working towards a Hegemon which I plan to use as a pirate ship. While it is large and slow, the idea of sporting 10 turrets and decent cargo space for less than 100M is intriguing. Plus from a distance, a Hegemon won't be as obvious a threat as a PTrans.

I was thinking of mounting 6 Type 2's in the forward positions for pirating other transports, and then filling the remaining 4 slots with either Belial or Purple Goddess turrets to help shake pursuing fighters/bombers.

Well, it is possible. Already seen some pirating Hegemons (mostly around Dublin).
And yes, you can easily kill transporters. But against Bombers it'll be difficult. Four turrets against them will be uselees.

It was intended as a feature. But as many people have already mentioned, the short ranges on fighter turrets don't go well with most transports with a very few exceptions. Obviously, they were designed for freighters. But if you want to take your transport into combat, these are the turrets you should consider.

Some transports that benefit from fighter turrets:

- Pirate transport
- BWT
- Hegemon
- Armoured Transport
- Raba
- Percheron
- Behemoth
- Big Dragon

I haven't flown many transports with fighter turrets myself, but from what i know you clearly forgot the Shire there :rtfm:
It's a beast with fighter turrets, if it's not already one with just transport turrets.

Uhm. six type 2 turrets for frontal charge with an Hegemon? Core can't resist very much, expecially with advanced shield.

In my slave liner (90k core) I've mounted only 4 type2 (plus six type 3, frontal) and will be sufficient.

I've used hegemon in corsairs territory and I still believe that, as wiki said, fast turrets is not the best.. But depends how do you fight.

Just as an info on small turrets:

1. They are sold on the IC stations near capital planets, not on the planets themselves.

2. They may have the same stats in their info-cards, but neverless they are quite different from each other.

Liberty small turrets for example have an extraordinary slow turning rate, which makes you think twice before equipping them on a hardpoint with a great firing arc.

Bretonian turrets turn the fastest.

I've been thinking about sticking with the basic transport shield, or maybe going shield-less with a CAU-7 to back me up, instead of risking running dry on energy when I need it. I'm running on the assumption that most transports out there are more worried about VHF and Bombers, so they run anti-snubcraft setups, rather than heavy hull busters.

I'm usually a very defensive player, but when it comes to pirating, too much defense seems to get one killed rather quickly.

So then at the moment I'm looking at the blueprints of a Hegemon with 2 type 1's, 4 type 2's, and 4 type 3's or Purple Goddess Turrets; stock transport shield; train cruise disruptor; and a CAU-7.

I added turn rates for transport turrets to the wiki a few months back. The Bretonian turrets are second-fastest, with the Kusari ones being fastest. Rheinland and Liberty are worst, both being about 33% slower than Kusari.

I think this is being fixed with 4.86 (since they're supposed to have the same stats), but I'm not sure.

Don't go shieldless--you're wasting several hundred thousand points of damage absorbtion that you'd get from bats. The base transport shield doesn't cause that much drain, but if that's too much I'm fairly sure you can use freighter shields.

Until now I thought all transport turrets are equally useless when it comes to turning speed. This will help me a lot.

Thanks for clarifying this. I never tried Kusari turrets.
