First off, move this one over to general discussions, not here.

Second - well, think about it. If there were a couple of nice EMP blasts in our atmosphere right now, shutting down all electricity around the globe for, oh, three months - how many people would survive? I recommend 'Dies the Fire', by S.M. Stirling as a read (although it was a bit more permanent in that alternate universe).

In other words - you're asking us if we're tech dependent - while we're sitting here, all around the world (literally) communicating instantly via computers and phones?

dunno about you guys...

i can light a fire using two sticks, i can make a bow and arrows from acacia trees, i can make fishing rods and line from dried goat-gut, make a fishing net from reeds, i can make a canoe, and given time i can make a complete yacht. I can shear sheep, spin wool, knit (but not pretty patterns), make cartwheels, windmills, waterwheels and furniture, forge bronze using the lost-wax casting method, weld, make magnets, navigate by the stars, the sun, the moss on trees and termite mounds, tell the time by the same, i can butcher animals, make sausages from their (well-washed) intestines, bake bread, make pasta from scratch, rebuild engines, gearboxes, generators and transformers, make chinese lanterns, braze copper pipes, throw pots, make roofing tiles, and i know the secret of roman concrete and greek fire.

technology-wise... not a lot. i can't code, have a limited knowledge of how to fix registry errors, and i threw my iphone at the wall when it became unbearably slow.

Technology is just our next step along the line. I guess it's a bad thing that 90% of people don't know how to pull a plough or saddle a horse now that that's redundant?

you could use horses to plough, but it takes forever to do a field, in comparision with the speed a tractor does it, and the tractor is cheaper to run than a horse. it's also less labour-intensive, and therefore the profit margins go up, as you dont have to have 30-odd people involved in harvesting, only 3 or four

Our generation isn't tech dependent, our entire species is. Tool use or technology, is the cornerstone of our existence, from the ability to create fire and sharpen sticks to quantum computing and spaceflight.

I'm starting to believe that gagdets are making us incredibly lazy and that is the root of a lot of social issues to date.

Today in my city on news a woman in 30's well dumping garbage with 1 hand, talking on cell with other dropped hew cell phone down the garbage chute. Then she jumped in after it, and got stuck for hours. So it made me think.
I myself think to many rely on tech. I have a basic cell phone, use for phone calls only. No text messages/no app's bla bla bla. Desktop only(excluding work laptop) And no other tech toys.

I dunno.

Same story, Engineering student, 1980's, new calculator.

Could have happened. Likely did.
