1. What build of Windows 8 did you use ?, the most stable and latest build is 9200
2. Did you installed .net Framework 3.5 online ?, I believe that Windows 8 installing additional update for .net Framework 3.5
I am currently using Windows 8 and installed Disco succesfully, I need no any compability option to run Disco.
And Windows 8 is the new XP IMO

Windows 8 is more optimized for tablets and other portable touchscreen devices, and there has been some issues with W8 on PC. Personally I've never tried it, nor will I, simply because they will be more imcompatibiltiy issues and also because Win 7 works perfectly fine.

Like the saying goes, if it's not broke, don't fix it.

But yeah, most of the reviews I've read says that Windows 8 works great on a tablet or smartphone, but at the moment there's been a few hicups with it on PC.

Get rid of it and go back to Win 7 would be my recommendation.

Also, Win 8 is still in it's early stages, so there will be some issues for obvious reasons.
