Remember that Freelancer is not an MMORPG, where you can interact with other players of similar level if you are in specific zones. In FL everyone wishes to get to top as fast as possible. There's not much to do in multiplayer for mid-range ships, cause they are no match for higher level players.
I've done many things to increase time required to reach top levels - all ship prices were increased, especially freighter prices. However, problem is that many people still suppose that they are obliged to help newbies, and many newbies expect help for the start. If you get 10 million in the beginning, you surely won't buy a Hawk for yourself.
one thing I would like to see is npc's using some of the high level ships I think the only npc's I have seen using the ships from the discovery mod with the exception of the gunboats, cruisers and, battleships are the blood dragons I would like to see npcs in class 9 light fighters like the slipstream or in the class ten upgrades like the Executioner
my characters
{TG}_Telthose: slipstream, cocky lil guy who likes fast ships and enjoys hanging out with GC in Kusari (he has a thing for dangerous women)
{TG}Telthose_Trader: Tranport, a cargo carrier that likes making money the easy way (has a habit of bribing everyone so he doesn't have to fight his way from system to system, and it is rumored that he moonlights by smugling)
{TG}Thunder: liberty gunboat with battleship missle turrets (I think he is trying to over compansate for something with the size of those guns lol)
A crazy idea (maybe not THAT crazy) would be to reset the server and make everything more expensive. Newb helping banned, and make everything cost MORE, especially weapons. So that it would take 2-3 months to build up a battleship....just like in MMORPG`s it requires huge amounts of time to get to the top. *Don`t jump on me vlad it`s just a suggestion* :yahoo:
Okay yes raise weapons prices but not THAT much... 2-3 months would make the noob get bored and leave. I say increase the difficulty of well... everything. Make missions harder increase the NPC patrols and population zones to have higher difficulty scale add in the MKII version fighters and then reduce the Train's cargo to 3,500 units, and decrease its hull/shield capacity. Also lower the codename weaps a bit, but not as low as before where nomad weaps beat it all. Maybe even higher the energy on nomad weaps, or lower the fire rate. Then also maybe higher the damage of some of the better level 9 weaps. Like the Kusari Sunfury (or sun/skyblast i forget which is level 9) the Rheinland level 9 guns and make a liberty level 9 gun as the don't have ANY. Same for Bretonia.

What do you mean by 'transfer'? If you drop it in an empty system and log on with another char, it will dissappear... no other way.

Standard request posted dozes of times. Remember that this mod intends to preserve Freelancer balance so I cannot replace normal NPCs with advanced ones. Maybe in a few selected places - yes, but you'll have problems finding them.

Well if you want to hide them Igiss put them in my Risha and Shak'rish systems. If noone uses FLE to find the systems I give it a month before they are found. Unless of course they find Tras'chi. Then they have access to about 4 different systems, all of them hidden ones...

It might be a start, but it doesnt address the real problem: the design of the Large Train. With five out of six weapons up front, its difficult to keep the pirates within the fire arch of most of your weapons. Upping the lvl of the mounts to 10 would enable the train to mount missile turrets, thus making it slightly easier to hit the enemy.
Of course, if the power of the ordinary transporter turrets were significantly increased, missile turrets wouldnt be necessary

The problem with the lack of low- and mid-range ships comes from the original Freelancer. To put it mildly, the balance in Freelancer is FUBARed.
The balance is designed to follow the players progression from Liberty through Bretonia and to Kusari. That is, a Liberty HF is outclassed by a Bretonia LF, a Bretonia HF is outclassed by a Kusari LF and so on
So, in order to survive in Kusari, you need at least a Kusari ship as all previous ships are completely outclassed there. And dont even think about leaving House Space and going outback unless youre flying a VHF!
Basically, if you want to go everywhere in the game, you must fly at least a VHF and preferably a Gunboat.
What can be done about it? Unfortunately, not much
The entire structure of the game would have to be torn apart and reassembled. All fighters would have to be rebalanced between both Houses and pirate factions (that is: a Liberty LF is equal to a Rhinland LF which is in turn equal to a Dragon LF and so on), the type of ships that can spawn in different systems would have to be changed, and finally the pirates of the outback would need to lose most of their HF and VHFs in favour of LF and MFs. Unless this is done, you wont find anyone flying LF, MF and HFs they are simply not powerful enough
But doing that would mean that no area (perhaps except the Nomad infested systems) would pose much danger after all, all ships are more or less equal in power and performance
And even if all ships were made even, and the pirates lost their VHFs, Id still like to see a LF survive the radiation in many of the outback systems

Well, to be honest, Id be really mad if I lost my trader and the 300+ millions hes got in the bank
Also, I think were losing sight of what made us play Discovery Freelancer in the first place the big ships.
Whats the point in playing Discovery if you need to sweat and toil for months just to get a Gunboat? I came here because I wanted to fly the Osiris not because I wanted to fly between the same two planets hundreds of times!
A complete redesign and reset of the server might be a good idea but then I really hope that the regular players get to start with 100+ millions. I dont really fell like having to earn all those credits again
Perhaps lowering the prices of LF's and HF's and slightly raising the prices (by say, $2,500 to $5,000) on all the VHF's, Frieghters, Cap-ships and the Transports/Trains would help?
I've never seen anyone fly a CSV on the server, so I'm not sure why we should add more ships to the mod if most of the ones we already have aren't being used.
