Ahh worm hole spam! Yep I've seen people sanctioned for this in the past, 1 or 2 jumps at the very most, any more is an abuse of the game mechanics, screenshot away and report.
the ideal way to RP it would be for the trader or whoever is 'jump spamming' to say something along the lines of "help, my ship is stuck in the jump hole's gravity well! I cant get away from it!"
At least then the pirate wouldnt be as frustrated by it.
' Wrote:Its not oorp to jump back and forth through a wormhole to save your life--saying "1-2 times" is very arbitrary.
It isn't exploiting game mechanics any more than space flight exploits physics.
Just not something to be abused.
There are situations where one could buy time--waiting for an ally or escort enroute, etc.
We don't need hair trigger sanctions on this.
It should be handled rp.
Abusing a wormhole to remain invunerable (in this case for about an hour) is IMHO an abuse of the game mechanics. 1 jump to escape or 2 at the most to throw your pursuer off and engage cruise. It's all very well buying time for support, but continual wormhole jumping should be discouraged. I also think it's OORP to do this because it makes you invunerable. A trader who does this is abuising the game to avoid paying a tax, in a PVP combat situation the person who jumps away is fleeing, so when someone does wormhole spam to me in a combat situation I just let them flee, chuckle and claim victory :D
well, yes - one can cover up a silly thing in PR. - but really, while its not sanctionable as a direct action, other than a slight ooRPness.
how does it come to such a situation anyway. - in that case, the trader took a route that he should not have taken - and instead of taking the roleplay consequences for being caught and confronted by those that he knew would guard this system he chose to jump back and forth. - unfortunately he found someone that played "his" game all along for a hour.
so for that matter - both pilots were acting a way they would not act if it was in- character. ( but the trader initiated it )
players sometimes estrange themselves from the roles they are supposed to play. - that starts with a trader saying "i would rather die than pay you the money" ( and then he dies ) to pirates that say "10million or you bite the dust" ( cause i know you make more in your powertraders life ). both are not acting their characters.
here we have a trader that made a bad decission of taking a shortcut he shouldn t know about. then he decided to use the game mechanics to get around the consequences. - of course he can say he is stuck in a jumphole ( and really, its the best thing to do in such a situation ) - but in the first place he should not have gotten into the situation at all.
the act of jumping back and forth - no problem. - if the pirate is not hunting in a team its him to blame not the trader though. - when i hunt alone, i have to live with certain disadvantages. and i sometimes have to let targets slip away. - sometimes its just about making a point. - if the a trader started to mock me when he got away, i d place a nice unlawful bounty on him ( oh, sometimes placing 1000 credits is enough - its a legal reason for a merc to blow up a trader )
i think the situation escalated on both sides - and it shouldn t get that far ever.
Didnt read the whole thing but, I did read the first post. I know for a fact I just can NEVER get the stupid search engine to work but I know I read a sanction where Fellow Hoodlum did sanction the holy hell out of someone for that and said that lame tactic is ooRP.
Thats all I know what I rad to tired to give much opinion.
' Wrote:But an hour on both your parts is extreme desperation. Let it go. this shouldn't be a sanction thing unless it becomes a "regular tactic" with such extremes as you told here.
I read your whole post and I agree with you but this part makes it sound like I have no life or something. I stayed in that whole hour to teach him, that tactics like that might not always work.
Next time if that happens I will stay on the Chugoku side as a Blood Dragon... And I surely don't have the patience to go through that again. I thank everyone who has tried to answer my question, regardless if its sanctionable or not, I won't bother report it and just try continue playing the game...
But as I said before, maybe theres a scenario that this type of "exploit" might hurt the Roleplay for some factions/players guarding specific areas. If anyone could figure out a good scenario that could justify whether its needed to be sanctionable or not.

So far the reasons it should be sanctionable has because its: Well basically lame, and that in roleplay a pilot couldn't go in and out of jumpholes so many times without something happening to their ship or landing on a weird location. Another thing being noted is that it has happened before where a person has gotten sanctioned. Tho nobody has yet said exactly when (meaning it could been done when the rules were different, maybe around 2007 or something like that...)
On the other hand, those that stated it shouldn't be sanctionable have agreed that its a bad tactic and bad sportsmanship but since it dosen't state in the rules anywhere about this "extreme situation" then it shouldn't be sanctionable either.
(I maybe interpreted everyones posts wrong, so feel free to correct me. Thank you.)
It is not against the rules as of now. But I support the idea of getting the rules amended so that it would be officially forbidden. Maybe starting a poll about it could be a good idea, what do you think?
