People, let's be realistic, what could a community manager really bring? Sure, they might have a lovely title and have a great time setting up polls and what not, but let's take a look at the game itself. It's dying. Slowly but surely. What could community manager really bring? Perhaps a few new players staying longer than usual, but that'd be it.
I hate to be negative, but that is the truth. I also don't believe there are a lot of people here who are really fit for the role.

Community Managers, what a load of trash. If you really want to do something in favour of the overall server, then leave the "Community Manager" stuff to the Forum-Mods, and actually create a "new" spot you'll call -Event-Team- ... which basically does nothing else as to set-up small and larger events in-game. Long-term event-chains, one-time events, events born out of ingame encounters which happen without any notification on the forums, events with several days pre-warming and notification on the forums.

But those people would need the ability to actually spawn and despawn stations and/or NPCs ingame.

And lets face it, Admins/Devs/Mods/whoever else and his hoe don't want that.

This is an interesting idea...

I would love to partake in something of this caliber.

Not sure, however, what are the chances that such an idea would ever be implemented in disco.

Still, I believe it can be done anytime at an informal, unofficial scale, as it would require the community and ( /or ) especially the official factions to come at an agreement regarding a "manager" who is the intermediary between admins and such.

I believe it's done already at a small scale in a few factions, or parts of this community considering there are devs/mods/admins who are part of certain factions as well

Everything ends at some point, you can't take that as an argument for inaction - otherwise better drop out of your job fast, because you will end soon, too Tongue
No seriously - communication in this community is bad, as in really bad - some devs try to give transparency and the info folks want ( hello Aet Wink )- others conjure up mumbo jumbo from thin air, at least it looks like that from the outside. Yet others are simply plain old rude or not interested in communicating , because they didn't sing up for that part.
And from the bottom to the top it works the same way - players want to invest their time and creativity - they want to make disco a better place and game but lack a person to speak to, someone willing to listen.....maybe some folks would feel more at home and stick around for longer if they would feel a bit welcome and taken seriously. Communication drag behind if many people are involved - communication is serious business and can make or break things depending on how it is executed.... everyone speaks about disco dying, so why not try to extend discos "suffering" a bit, give it a few more fun and better years?

Well, in that case, nearest person I see here would be fit for the role would be someone like Summer. He's chill with the majority of people in the community, gets along with a lot of people, he's not reclusive, he listens and he's not uptight (at least not all the time). SummerMcLovin is a pretty cool guy. Eh socializes with the community and doesn't afraid of listening.

A game lives as long as it is played. Therefore no game ever "dies".
In your words, Discovery "died" since it was released.

And until every single community member "dies" - one can still enjoy it as long as it'll last. I've recently visited the server and was suprised to see 140+ players online. So I can't understand people's pathetic fear.

The roleplay genre as a whole might be dying ever since. But I won't worry that it'll "die" before I will. And I sure as hell didn't planned to play RP games til the end of my days...

If someone volunteers to 'manage' this (dead) place - why not? It'll surely bring more good than harm. No matter who it'd be.
