Ever played Homeworld? That's the sort of balance I would like to see really, although at a smaller scale. Gunboats should be useful against strikecraft, larger ships would be able to better track gunboats. Obviously a Liberty cruiser wouldn't be able to track his big forward cannon on you. But an RM cruiser would be able to train it's cannons on you all day. That's why Walker told fighters to destroy the gunboats, which was ridiculous either way and should've never worked.

The OC dessie is fine. It is powerful and agile but for all its guns you cannot mount uber guns on it or you will run dry. Not to mention if a target gets under it, it is hard pressed to get those smaller more agile ships from under it. If you joust with it you are dead. If you run from it you are dead. Your only chance is to get under it. For all it fire power it is offset by its moderate armor.
The Talarca nearly a gunboat in terms of armor but, haveing only 8 turrets means it can mount strong weapons and keep it's energy up, and with size and superior agility.
The Zoner dessie = good ship, turret issuses but if your used to the ship you'll know how to keep others from exploiting the fireing arch weaknesses. Strong armor and not so many turrets to drain power too fast.
Huntress = crap
The Corsair criuser = crap
The last two crap ships are, astetically beutiful but they lack combat effectiveness. They dont need a buff all the way around but IMHO if a ship sucks in most to all things then it should excell, at least in ONE aspect. For example give unbealiaveable power or armor or agility, something.
For those ships with too little power..........use missles they are power savers in sustained fire while being big drains they do not drain continueously.

Oh come on, Talarca lacks universality, but has agility...
OC dessie on the other hand has 12 turrets...so whats keeping you to mount 8 strong turrets on OC dessie and rest fill up with lets say missile turrets....that kind of set up would be still good against caps and still be able to fight off bombers easier. Key word is weapons group...
Blind spot should be fixed by moving around hardpoints, and all turrets firing everywhere by fixing their arcs...only after that we can think about rebalancing things...

Reread it dude. I didnt say the Talarca sucked at all. It's my favorite ship. The OC destroyer, your saying the same thing as me, save power by adding missles.
So easy with the flame thrower and check your targets.

what flame thrower?...There is no flame here.
Talarca was my favorite ship too...i liked its lack of universality and great ability of doing specific job...specific job is purpose of ship classes..if one class could do all the jobs, there would no need for other classes...
My point was about OC dessie and some suggestions that it should be nerfed (before your post)...so i drew a parallel...
OC dessie should get fixed hardpoints and fire arcs...rest of the ship works quite well...
Your notions about Zoner and especially Huntress are correct...Corsair cruiser has one large flaw...size...perfect target from all sides...

I still try to make my ships as well rounded as possible. This ussually results in a challenge no matter who I fight, but slaughter when I use one of my human characters that can kit for specific jobs.
With size which is a disadvantage, should come an advantage power or armor. I would balance ships against thier own abilities and qualities not against other factions as there is seldom real balance between two groups.
For example lets balance the Republic of congo against the United States of America, militarilly speaking. I bet our ships are unbalanced.
I was thinking that maybe something smaller than a destroyer, like the Talarca Light criuser might take up a new ship class and call it frigate.
A frigate being bigger than a gunboat and smaller than a destroyer. sporting gunboat and criuser guns. similar to how battle criusers are the stepp between criuser and battleship, we could have frigates be that step in between.

try flying a kusari dessy, you'll cream your pants. more armor than the talarca, 1 more gun, more agility, smaller hitbox.

I hadn't had a lawful capital ship, after that BH Orca,...
So far all cruisers i've flown were rubish... Rheinland Pirate cruiser, Corsair Cruiser and the Huntress... they were all mini battleships without armor or firepower to substantiate their size... Let's see how this turns out then... *Runs to a private server, as capwhoring is frowned upon here...*

@ Telbasta, read things properly and stop taking hasty conclusions.
Right now you can mount 1 cerb + 5 normal guns on a GB and go against anything... get 2 GBs and 1-2 missiles turrets on each and you can take a BS as well as fighters/bombers. The BS will never hit your hull as well. A bit too universal don't you think?
The proposed changes are:
1. Anti-capship specialized GB guns (Razor, Inferno, Forward guns) get 2k range
2. Normal turrets get under 1000m gun range while Cerberus get some 1400m
3. Missiles are changed so that you can only reasonably use 2 of them (by energy or ammo or weapon slots). While they keep their tracking and maybe get slightly increased damage (provided vanilla ships loose damageable components)
So what would this mean for your Kusari GB:
You can still sit at 1.5 k and fire the forward gun on a cruiser - but hitting it will be more difficult than with cerbs. You can still kill fighters with your two missiles turrets and two solaris. Maybe actually better than you could before.
... all this is a proposal that if implemented will be tested by everyone in the beta versions of 4.85, maybe it's time to wait and see then?
