Yeah. I see that as bad play only. I would understand if people did that to me if I were delivering bad interaction in return but I don't. Or no one told me yet ;)
Calm down, boys. The sentence even contained the word "troll". That's what I do if the pirate does a way too high demand like 25 millions and insists on it. But I'm glad you guys took your time to get mad about that...

It makes no sense at all.
inRP: it's just act of stupidity and You are right it makes no sense at all
ooRP: it's just a dick move
I sit most of my time in the Shukensha Renzu Liner. I can't fight anything with it. That's why I recommend negotiating or hiring A COMPETENT navy pilot or a bounty hunter. Hiring is really good for longer trade routes. On my short runs between Penny and 'hattan I simply talk to people.
I. Interesting all your comments and are valuable consideration, but still think you should have rules for pirates too, just as is improving the rules for POBs. There must be a solution I do not know and would give even more flavor in the game. A toll ... normal, but half load or it whole, not just think !!!
The pirates operate within their rules. They can demand your cargo or money. Reasonable is to demand 1-5 millions, depending on your level and ship or demanding up to you entire cargo bay (that is the worst case, but you can try to lower that by negotiating AND NOT BY TRYING TO SHOOT HIM OR FLEEING). You can't hope you can fly anywhere without risking something. That's the thing with freelancer roleplay. You can't always be the winner.
A good roleplayer doesn't demand too much, because he plays pirate for roleplaying, not for making profit. Mining and Hauling are much more profitable. Keep that in mind when encountering a pirate.
