Because it should be a challenge to get your guard tag.

It shouldn't just be given to you just like that.

You should earn it like all those people before you.

If you can't get the tag then you don't deserve the ship that
corresponds to that tag.

That's why I say no.

But you don't need the guard tag to get the ship, you just need the guard ID. There is no cosmetic difference between a guard tag and a normal tag, and you still have to do the hours of mission grinding to get the guard rep in the first place. I recall a certain RH BS traveling all over Sirius in an attempt to get guard tagged...

However, it will be a boon to those factions that must maintain hostility to certain factions while remaining neutral to their allies. With this implemented, GMG can be hostile to OCs and Sairs, while retaining neutrality to the Order and Dragons, IMG can be hostile to Outcasts and neutral to Mollys, Bretonians can be hostile to Molls and Corsairs (quite hard to pull off), while still being neutral to Outcasts...

I am against any rep fixing tool, the way it is now people need basic knowledge of factions and who is friendly or hostile.
This is information that one will not learn with a rep fixing tool, a toll that will just fast forward a power trader to his cap ship.
With a bit of common sense and patience i've guard rep'ed dozens of characters without docking on hostile bases or doing anything else ridiculous.

Getting the Guard tag still is a challenge. You have to do tons of missions and such. It's just that with this tool, you won't have to take 30 times more missions just to abort them and ruin your rep with everyone else. Nobody likes grinding, but for getting the guard tag it serves a valid purpose. For removing every other affiliation though, it's an unnecessary and very annoying waste of time.

Take my Freelancer for instance. The rep sheet is green to so many factions that I gave up on getting a proper IFF. It would take about 24 hours (estimated) gametime to fail that many missions, time which I'd rather spend actually playing the game.

Oddly enough, my Council Battleship Dunkerque has a rather high Liberty Navy rep, which is..increasing somehow.

So, I'm off to New York to drop missions.

That sound ok?

Or maybe i'll just type /droprep LN and be able to actually properly RP and play the game, instead of wasting my bloody time going across half of Sirius to do some OORP rep fixing that probably will end up with me getting flamed and just generally losing respect from people in general.

I like the drop rep idea.

EDIT: People will get their damn Guard ID's if they want them, no matter how high you set the bar.
I find it strange that people are using the argument that this would mean people who don't 'deserve' a guard ID can get one and thus get a capital ship.

Why is it that you want to encourage people to spend more time being OORP and then 'reward' them with a capital ship?

I voted no simply because I don't think it should be a tool, I think it should be a costly bribe.

Zoners and GMG being allies and what not, I do GMG missions to get Zoner rep up. But at some point I have GMG flashing and Zoner full green, to get the Zoner IFF I have to intentionally fail missions and/or kill some GMG. Now its very OORP to kill allies to get better with a different faction. Thats like being an American Soldier and killing British civilians to make your respect from the US Army higher than that of the British people. Doesn't make sense.

Or the other day I had a Hogosha that accidentally got the Corsair Tag, to get rid of it, I had to fail missions and kill Corsairs....very OORP. Sure there is taking a bribe with the Outcasts or something, but thats OORP too.

So a negative bribe would be useful, but make it expensive so people are sure they want to do it.

As soon as people start having a repfix tool they will start asking for a getmoney or a getship tool. Wheres the fun in that? I disagree 100% to this. Its just silly that the challenge of getting your rep, I know alot of people think that its OORP to be killing random guys in some random system and it is. But whats more OORP than having a faction like you for typing a few commands.

One thing I do agree with is when your rep with some faction has gone down and you cant be bothered going all the way across the sector just to kill 3 guys. But think, a noob comes on for his first time, he pops out of Manhattan with a fresh starfier AND FULL NOMAD REP!!!! I like the way how youve got your first char and you have that decision, what path will he follow? Then when you make your choice you go on that long journey to RP that faction *sighs*. Im just saying that minor rep fixes would be ok for a fee but noobs might take it for granted and chose the easy yet boring path.

Brill had a good point, thats what bribes were made for! I feel very strongly about this as youve probably gathered.

A repfix tool should only be able to be used if you are green or red with a faction and have a heavy penaltie fee.
