Both these factions are pretty overpopulated and the RP is somewhat diluted by the pvp-oriented types who just barely comply within the rules, and are here pretty much for the combat. This isn't to steer you away from doing what you like or make you feel hedged in; this is Discovery and it's your characters and your RP. For that reason I urge you to do what you want to do.

As a seasoned veteran though, if I had a say in what to do, I'd steer you toward something like the Hessians, Gaians or Hogosha. The Hessians especially are on a huge upswing due to a popular trade route that's smack dab in the middle of their territory. It's also fought over by the Hessians and Corsairs, while the Bretonian Armed Forces push to keep everything in line.

For starters though, just mill around and have a look at things for yourself. Your opinion of wanting to pirate might change, or a certain house may inspire you to do something unheard of that might revolutionize and open a whole new aspect of roleplay.

Just remember, keep it within the rules, make it fun for everyone you interact with, and have fun yourself.
