I believe this is a completely valid tactic, through I have never seen its use role played before. So far I've only seen it used by people in New York for a couple of lols. Once as I was trading I got stuck behind someone who actually mined every single trade lane to Westpoint. Now that was beyond annoying. Should have just gone to cruise.

When you're being chased by someone who completely outclasses you in terms of firepower, it makes perfect RP sense (and makes you feel rather proud of yourself) when you out-fox them instead.
EDIT: For some factions, staying and fighting is OoRP unless there's no way to escape. Again, in those cases, using every means at your disposal to get away isn't a bad thing.
And there is a hugely easy counter if you are smart...
You can only drop the mine a couple of seconds before entering the lane, but as soon as you see the enemy flying towards the lane you should shoot it out.
I don't see how it's an exploit. If someone goes through a trade lane in front of you and you shoot it out, they don't get ejected at the next one. That's not the way freelancer trade lanes work. You get ejected at the lane which has been disabled - if you're already past that lane, you don't get thrown out. This technique uses that principle. Don't like it, don't let them get a mine into the lane...
Actually it is one of the oldest trick in the book to get away when chased by someone.
I have used that trick for 4-5 years and am pretty good at timing it :cool:
Just to bad if the chasing player gets upset and start yelling :rtfm: that just gives me a nasty laugh when i celebrate it with a cold Beer :crazy:
I am not a native English Speaker, so i make grammar errors.
But it annoys me when people make silly comments about that... especially brits who for the most part can't speak their own language let alone anyone elses!
Can I go with both as an answer? It seems both a glitch and a valid tactic. Maybe unintended feature would be a better description though. Based on how tradelanes are supposed to work, it seems that disrupting the one behind you should cease to propel you, but it doesn't. And since it's clearly in the game that way, it's a valid tactic. I think if the entire game were redone with amazingly precise attention paid to details, though, it wouldn't be the case.
Regardless, if someone so much as looks at a lane, why aren't you shooting it out, rendering this not very useful?

Nope.
It's not a glitch unless it's an uninteded feature. It's quite intended that only the lane infront of you factors into lane travel; Therefore, not a glitch. Not much more to discuss here really... Apart from if you wan't to call it a cheap tactic, i say it's creative really, if someone has to run, he usually has a good reason, like thacker said, you out-foxed your enemy, brains are always better than superior firepower.
But really, if you want to prevent him from escaping, shoot the lane down yourself, if you're 3k back(outside of CD range), you aren't going to catch up to him if he's a half decent pilot so....
I have to say, that the debate is completely in favor of this move not being a glitch. I can say that I will never use this move, even if it means death, and i'll grunt and shake my fist at anyone who uses it to get away from me(at my screen)...but in the end;
