I suppose that works, Small ships are smuggler vessels. And a side effect of this is that the Simple light fighter police could actully harm them and would only be fighting Fighter class guns and not heavy Transport Guns.

It could get around the 3 ships per Planet system as well. The Mooring Fixture base would have Larger ships for sale. While the Ring would have fighters/Frieghters.

*Edit* There would need to be a huge and havily spammed Server message if this was implemented as im sure the power-smugglers would would be pretty confussed when Manhatten stopped buying Artifacts. I predict alot of "Why are Artifact so cheap on Manhatten now?" Quickly followed by "UNDOCK NOW AND DROP YOUR CARGO"

Hell! I can account for the spam of small freighters for the whole of disco. Got a smuggler or trader on pretty much all of em one time or another. The Correo however is an excellent vessel for smuggling, you just gotta know the right routes;)

That's quite a good idea, the planet with two docking ports, I mean. There are a couple of stations that have it, that I know of. The one in Munich's probably the best case in point though, with a luxury side and a utility side.

No smuggling to lawful planets, should be dangerous, and worth while. (High profits, high risk)

I still say make another tier of freighter thats on par price wise as the better transports. Give it stealth capabilities and maybe 600-1000 cargo for the best (and maybe gunboat size) with possibly a smaller bomber sized model to. It would add in another playstyle and would make someone think "Hmmm should I pick the 4000+ ship and be a huge walking target or take it a bit safer and go with a stealth ship." Currently there is no reason to go back to freighters after you get a transport, they are just a stepping stone and this would give a bit of choice to the "do you want guns or cargo" choice for smugglers.

I dont know if its doable in game mechanics but it would be interesting rp. Maybe give it a tag in the vein of the zoner whale while making it to the outcasts and corsairs, possibly even a weaker one used by some neutral faction such as junkers or zoners so if lawfuls wanted on they could do a bit of rp to get it. If this is pulled off some of the ships with "stealth capablities" in their tags should get it to. I can think of the noir series offhand but others should get it as well.

Maybe take inspiration to design them off the b2 bomber for the freighters and other stealthy fighters such as the f22 and f117a for any fighters added? If they could implement the stealth mechanic I would so pay someone to design a similar craft.

I love freighters, and they are far better and more useful than they used to be, but there's still very little reason to trade with them over an actual transport. I know, I tried, but my Camara was more useful for NPC cargo piracy than for trading.

It was suggested a long time back that smuggling only be allowed in freighters, but it would be made a fair bit more profitable to compensate. Of course, you'd still end up with people in 5k transport hauling it with no regard to the rules.

I good solution is to not allow ships with certain ID's buy smuggling goods. Here is my simple elegent solution.

Add a second docking ring on manhatten to dock on to the shady side of the planet (no mooring). Then trade the shady goodies at that docking locality only. Do this at all instances where smuggling profit is to be made and guess what, your problem with ships over 1k running with cardi is solved.

If the ships want to run it, the best they can do is get closer to the destination and then hire a smaller freighters to empty it (for a price of coarse).

What do you guys think?

PEACE

Edit:
Better idea, Mooring docks to one planet and docking ring docks to another. They look identical but the docking ring one sells the suggling goods. The transformation should be easier to do than having sensors malfuntion on smaller ships.

the best idea I have heard here so far is the one where there is a docking port where only small ships could dock and sell the cargo for a very high price

another docking ring could do it....have it go and land in the bad side of town or what not
