why do the phantoms not have a feedback thread?

Right ive had both great and bad encounters with the Phantoms, but as someone previously said, that can be said by any faction on Discovery.. This however was not one of those times.

Sorry but all you did where Mining, did you try fleeing? Did you try to fight back (i know it didnt matter but if you wanted to RP.. RP)

I mean the Phantoms are allowed to shoot you even if your a miner.. And Zelot wasnt doing a bad job being in character either (Right I know, suprising right? j/k)

But in all seriousness, stopp trying to Flame the Phantoms as they have done a good job in both the game and on the Forums, ive read their stories and Liked what I saw. I only regret not being one of them really.

But as said, there is always good days and bad days.

And Even Phantoms have them ^^

Well yes, I would too like to see more Phantoms participating in Roleplay... so you could at least roleplay with one of them for like, say, 15min to up half an hour.

On the other hand, they are Phantoms!,... not -the- nice neighbourhood pirates trying to get your cash.
Phantoms... maniacs with the sole intention to blast the heck out of you.
What you expect them to do?
Talk about their plans? Or the weather? They dont even have a reason to discuss/argue with you about whatever.
They want your death!
And you know what, that is what they really like and enjoy to do, kill people for the sole purpose of their own enjoyment... that is why them are Phantoms...

There are some, who might be -different- to that....
But I would rather like to see them going in all guns blazing as sitting right next to me and teaching me about the cruelness of themselves.... would be.... strange, -very- strange.

To that video:
Be happy he talked to you more as saying "Time to meet your maker buddy!"
Hey, he even asked why you just sit there and did nothing. Maybe you should just jave left the area and come back later when he had been gone.

At least your character now knows that next time he got a Phantom contact on scanners, its better to run.

Finally: To the Phantoms (as Iam about that here, I thought I could mention it)
- More activity would be great (seen as many Admins are in there, if that is still the case, this could be difficult to manage, as those people might have more important stuff to do...)
- More talk would be nice (Mon'Star, fe, is also sort of a maniac terrorist, but he found a way to RP and talk with people before he tries to lay down his wrath on them; maybe think about how to get more roleplay out of your characters.... would be really nice to see and more then welcome)

I just log these days when one shows up in one of the systems on my trade route (singular intentional).

So, we can see in this video that the miner was doomed - he was going to be destroyed regardless of whether or not he complied with the Phantom or not. If the Miner knows he was going to die, IRP he should just point a gun at his head and pull the trigger. The player, in turn, has no reason not to simply go AFK and let the Phantom blow up a totally immobile, unresponsive player ship and make the kill as unsatisfying as possible. That's what the style of play encouraged by many Phantoms produces, and the one of the reasons they need a feedback thread.

I dock and change characters whenever they appear. (I think I had a conversation with Zapp about this.)

To give you some perspective, I sat in amongst Hellbound, Rawshank, and Red doing nothing but talking and was not once killed.

RP exists, but you need to put your foot in the door as much as they do.

Imo, if someone in RP doesnt know who you are or why you are shooting at them, you explain, he is in a mining ship, and is not going anywhere and is no threat to you.

Personally, i have been asked many times 'why r u shootin me?', every time, you should explain who you are, as the large percentage of people you meet are nubs, and have no clue who you are. Also, one on one RP can be great fun, especially when you are teaching the other person (probably a nub) what RP is, and introducing them to RP situations.

To be honest, it is things like these that cause the phantoms to be flamed so much, to people who dont understand who they are, they just get told when asking 'they are an invite only, mostly admin faction with special guns and ships'. Now, if i were a nub, i'd think that that sounds like a poorly disguised excuse to PvPwhore with the baisically any ships and guns you want. The only way to prevent this, and the enevitable bias that comes from it, is to actively RP with people (especially in one to one situations), not just shoot them and say 'im a phantom, im here to kill you'.

As much as i respect what the phantoms are, no matter who you meet, you should RP with them to the full extent of your capabilities, not just shoot them 'because you can', otherwise you invite flames and imo have no defense. If you dont RP with someone on one ocasion, no matter how much you might on others, you will be branded PvPwhores by them.

So, in relation to this video, no matter who asks 'why are you shooting me' saying 'because i am a phantom' gives you no leg to stand on when accused of not RPing.

It does not matter who you are RPing with, what matters is that you RP.


So, yes, i think a phantom feedback thread would be nice, if at least to let people let some of their grievences out.



Edit: One more thing, do the phantoms have free lisence to shoot traders without asking for cargo/credits?

Give him a chance to do what?

Roleplay? That he did, all you did was mine and ask him, quite nicely aswell, to stop shooting you.. When you could have just tried to run as any sane person would have in that situation..

Just my two cents really.

Now I feel sad that you havent had better RP with them, but perhaps the next time will be different?

I'm only going to respond to the video in the first post.

As a member of the Phantoms I honestly find the title of your video a little insulting Darthbeck.

My Phantom is known to be an agressive and unpleasent man. Rawshank is not your friend. However, the implication you're giving there with your video, which quite clearly starts some distance through an interaction is potentialy rather a misleading one.

If you wish to present someone in a bad light then it's worth having the decency to actualy present it in some context, rather than just something which without the surrounding circumstances is bound to look bad.

I have had interactions on my phantom, and on my keeper which have gone rather like this...

*Several lines of roleplay designed to bring someone into an RP situation*

*No responce*

*several more lines of roleplay laying out my character's aims within the situation*

*No responce*

*I blow up the individual*

"-bleep- you n00b. I -bleeping- hate it when -bleep- gank, just get a -bleeping- -bleep- you -bleep-"

*guy I was orginally trying to RP with logs off*

Now. To my eyes this looks a little like the above situation, except without the swearing or it being entirely in game.

The last section seems t have happened in the form of a video I find offensive giving the amount of work I have put into the chracter in the year it has been on the server (first as a merc then a phantom), and the number of people I have actualy blown up on the character since it has become a phantom (I can count them on the fingers of two hands), and the number of people I have had in depth conversations with.

Please. Give more context if you wish to say something negative, and criticism is best received when presented without anger or a 'you suck' attitude.

i decided to see what happened if i let him catch me. and i was giving him another chance to redeem the phantoms to me. and he didnot do that. and now i will be one of those people, who logs as soon as a phantom logs on. because i wont tolerate this kind of pvpwhorage from anyone.

he did nothing that suggested there was ANY way of my getting out alive. if i had tried to run, he would ahve killed me. given the RP i've had with phantoms before as well, nothing i could've said wouldve stopped him from killing me.

i have a complaint against ze'ev's.rage.

i was mining, and he comes up, and says "look what we have here" and then supernovas my shield.

at this point i turned on frap's. here is the resulting video:

now he was within the rules, and had some roleplay, but it felt like he was giving bare minium. which is not what i <strike>would</strike> should expect from the phantoms.

and i think that this problem exsists for most of the faction. the sole purpose seems to be to kill players. while that is a fine thing to do, the way i have seen it done by the phantoms(ze'ev most of all) is one step above blatent PVPwhorage. i think taht the entire faction needs to look at how it kills people.

"blatent PVPwhorage" Hardly. I see he gives you every opportunity to interact in a meaningful way. What do you do instead? Sit there and keep mining. Honestly? What do you expect him to do? You don't seem to want to role play with him apart from continuing mining and saying, "don't shoot me." We're not pirates, we're not going to tell you to give us your loot. Seems that the fault lies with you, and not my faction.
