In my wettest dream capships are faction or special roleplay only. Many others I'm sure have that very same dream.
Roleplay sort of goes straight down the drain when random player, just for their own amusement, can sit near a random capital planet and shoot things that are red to them because they obviously does not really belong in that area at all in the first place.
It ruins the immersion.
But it has always been like this, and I suppose the freedom that everyone has to make up this superninja random battleship is what this mod is about. To the bone.
But then again, isn't this supposed to be a 'role-playing' universe? To be a captain, commanding the lives of his crew, to boldly go... and get beaten up by noobcake1 and his buddy noobcake2 in their shiny new battleships. Immersion breakage imminent. Man the lifepods. Evacuate. Log on to something less conspicuous.
I dream of a game where everyone stands in awe when the flagship of a fleet appears. A monstrous beast of a ship, rarely ever seen in the game.
But this game might not be Freelancer Discovery.
So until I find that game I'll stick around here, and see where this all leads to.
My characters on Disco: [LN]-Andy.Doggett, The.Flying.Betty, Russ.Dalton, Harald.Treutiger

Restricting battleships won't change a thing. It's not the ship that does it, it's the mindset of the player. Restrict Battleships and everyone will fly Battlecruisers. Restrict them and everyone will fly Cruisers, then Gunboats, etc etc until we're all standing around gawking at each other in Starfliers. And then we'll blame the indies for it.

Heh, Whoever posted that was just sad they got pwned, and that is not actually an example, so +1 for you!
They didnt make me stop playing that character, they just took my cap6 (boo hoo).
I rp'ed that battleship damn well, and if you dont think I did.
Bite me.
ANNNNYWAYS,
I hope more examples of this "invisible rule" come up being used. It shall strike fear into those who make those stereotypes of indi caps true... Its the person flying the ship that is doing the wrong, not the ship itself.
Sorta like the drunk driver hitting your car full of kids and killing every last one of you. You wouldnt go sue hummer would you?

While true, capital ships are the most powerful of all vessels in Freelancer. They can go one to one against a fighter or bomber and win just about every single time (unless they attack Boss). And they can kill you with a quick razor one-two before you even know you're under attack.
