Nah, missiles run out, then you're stuffed, Korrd.

A smart fighter dodges until the missile-user is out of ammo, then beats them down hard.

I personaly never use missiles. They work pretty well against nomads in the SP story line though if you dual mount them... heh heh, *bang, bang- woosh. BOOM. splat.

Missiles are really useful. The problem is that most people do not know how to use them correctly. Instead, they fire missiles all the time hoping that one might hit the target.

Yeah like that wing of Navy defenders that blow up the freeport survivor in the SP story... It's fun attacking them, they go crazy and launch hundreds of missles. I used ALL of my CMs and they still leveled my shield and half my hull. Scary stuff. there's only three as well.

Yeah... why -are they- so expensive? They look to be about 5x or 10x more expensive than they should be. I mean if they are truly superior to guns then yeah make people pay to use them, but they just don't impress me as something that should cost an arm and a leg. Even the lower end missiles are relatively expensive.

The speed boost is welcome, good change there. Now we start the "cheaper missiles" campaign.:)

Did some one say missiles?
Their perfect. Try using this combo : 1 firestalker missile launcher and 1 cannonball missile launcher. works yust fine for me, when im blowing up NPC's or PC's. They will do yust fine.

Actually, I never used my CD.. Was in an Eagle, so I didn't feel like blowing up along with you.. You rammed your Nova Mines (back when they had 200m exp radius) each time..

Same here Morrigan. This is why some of my chars don't use ANY of those except tizonas (which will prob be changing next mod release for me). When I get my 'construction paycheck' of 2.7 bil, I'm going to be making 4 fighters.. 1 will have Tizzys/Coladas/Codenames/Nomads. Currently I have 4 fighters. 2 with Nomad guns and stuff, 1 with just Disinfector 3s (and Tizonas, but again, might change) and 1 with just Lugars (Bundschuh, using Bundschuh weaponry. Eats my energy supply alive though..).
The reason so many use Tizzys is because taking shields gets hard, and they help drastically. I'd use civilian shield busters (adv. Debilitators) except that the speed on them doesn't fit ANY gun in the game, and is so different it screws the accuracy so bad its not worth having them at all. I think I'll be bringing that up in the mod discussions later on to get that changed.

And CDs mess up missiles by making them explode (you need Train CDs however). If you hit the enemy fighter right has it shoots missiles, the missiles will blow up and hurt the shooter, rather than you.

The problem with that Blunt, is that most fights have multiple people nowadays and you need to reduce the enemy's numbers asap so your side isn't massacred. Fighters are usually given the job of keeping fighters/bombers off the caps, and if they have to dodge till the enemy is out of missiles before they engage, they can only tie up one fighter and that would last 30 minutes. Usually you need to take out fighters in under 5 minutes a piece, so doing your technique won't work well. Only in small fighter/bomber fights only.

i liked missiles at the VERY beginning. on a startracker - one advanced stunpulse + 2 slingshot missiles. it was a good loadout for quick kills - and usually payed off.

now as a higher level, only ammoless missiles work for me. its not too much cause the ammo is expensive. but rather cause i prefer not to make resupply runs for ammo. missiles miss too much, too - if they were serverside and not clientside, they might actually be a real alternative to guns, cause their accuracy would not drop due to lag. but as it is now - they re quite bad.

( i don t like NPC shooting missiles though, cause they are treated like small rocks and spin me around )

PS.: if shieldbreaking missiles did not only uncharge an enemies shiled - but also prevented it from recharge for a decent amount of time, they d be useful. that is - if missiles provided other effects than only copying standard weapons, they d be an alternative. ( anti shield recharge, immobilize missiles that kill the others engine leaving him floating straight, energy drains that leave the enemy without weapon power for some time, etc etc. )

Actually, shield buster missiles drain enemies energy if they come in contact with hull instead of shield, so if they're using high-power weapons, that can come in handy.

Compared to they way I used to use missiles I am horrified by the lack of damage on non-vanilla ships.

On Vanilla servers I usually had an Eagle, 1 tiz, 1 Lancer, wasp. Since it wasnt a RP server there was pretty much constant warfare, so you learn about pvp faster.

Dodging, wasps, aiming missiles, firing at the right time etc can all be learned through practice.

The lack of damage however, against non-vanilla ships, is a big blow. No wonder people say they can just dodge until he is out of ammo, the amount of CBs it takes to kill a non-vanilla armoured fighter is just staggering. Also noting that since people actually regen here, they can regen their shields as you fire a missile, so even against vanilla ships you could waste ammo.

A question though, Dab, were the wasps/hornets made less effective against missiles? There was never much problem blowing missiles up before.
