and he's right, if they are ammo-less energy weapons that have a damage type, but as far as I know, missiles don't have and cannot have damage types.

Hell yes I want that, as I've said before on several threads actually...not just 1 of these though, 4 of them would be nice, maybe decrease the damage and all, so it's be better for 4, this way, when you launch multiple projectiles, it looks cooler.
I don't really like it...the range is high the fight pilot won't have enough time to get in firing range or dodge if it is a turret...
I like weapons like the minigun : rate of fire 30.00 low damage due to the high rate of fire....and it would have a nice firing sound...not the pew pew pew i am used to.
Also i would like to see a gun like modern battleship 16inch guns...
Low rate of fire. It would fire a missile (it would represent the shell) at a speed of 1500 m/s and hight damage output and high engergy consumption (it would be used for capital ships)...and since it is a missile it would leave smoke trails...=P (probably doesn't fi with the rest of the universe; hey if you see EVE online a faction has plasma guns and such like all freelancer ships and another nation has bullets and shells)

FL crashes with this refire speed, this is not EVE, it is FL, the pew pew sound is useless as well, it makes the mod only bigger. And indeed the idea is good it is what are cruisers for.I like it but I would change the battleship missiles too if this come in-game.

This has been receiving good marks from a lot of people, so I thought I would share it. For such a fast and long range weapon, you may think it has waaaay too much power. But double check the shield damage. It is infact worthless against shields. The recharge also makes it so that, if you miss, you are going to be waiting a long time to fire it again. It uses both energy AND ammo, which is very expensive. Ontop of that, it is mounted like a forwardgun on the Siege Cruiser.
As for the damage: The Hull DPS is roughly 30% less than that of a Light Mortar. This Railgun is about 24,000 Damage Per Second, the Light Mortar coming out at 37,500 Damage Per Second. Less efficient, but it has it's own purpose.
It serves as the perfect Finisher against other capital ships. It also allows for retaliation at long range. However, the projectile is relatively narrow, and has 30-50% less area to "hit" you with as compared to the Light Mortar. Missing is costly, as it would drain an entire cruiser core. As an example, the Siege Cruiser has something around 1,400,000 max power. Cruiser/Destroyer Ballistic Missile System
Vertically Launched, similar to a Cruise Missile from modern day warships. This is a perfect way to show how much of an Artillery platform that cruisers and destroyers really are. Long range, quick refire, and quick enough to chase down other Cruisers, these pack a whallop against your hull, but are ineffective against shielding, giving you some leeway between missile barrages. At a .45 turning radius, it would be difficult to track even the slightly cautious gunboat pilot, and nigh impossible to hit bombers and fighters. When fighting with others, the explosion radius simply brings out the fact that war is deadly. If your enemies are stacking their ships around their capital ship- Let loose! These will scatter them quickly, and destroy those who are not weary. But be careful, these are also capable of taking out friendly bombers or fighters that may be engaged around your enemies ship.
I wanted something that went boom. Something that wasn't obscenely deadly, but it wasn't entirely weak and useless. That's how I feel about the current missile launcher for Cruisers. Yes, it's highly effective against Gunboats, and sometimes even bombers. But beyond that, the singular missile when avoided costs you a lot of energy. It also doesn't have the long range feel of this system, which will quickly show your ordinance superiority. Part of the explosive lover in me wanted to bump up the damage and radius, but I felt that in the name of balance, it was already large enough. Being nearly triple that of a Nova, you risk destroying your own allies if your attacks are not co-ordinated and precise.

Railguns arent necissarily a new concept, I dotn know if they have been implemented since I havent been on discovery for a good 6+ months, but I remember when me Lunaphase and a few others started making proposals to add generic rail and gauss guns to the mod.
It seems it was abandonded, but I would love to see the Gallic Gauss Cannons and Sirius Railguns added ^^ I'll try to link the prjoect here and hopefully we get enough momentum this time

EDIT: To nswer some of the questions though, Railguns dont nesicarrily shoot really fast. On the contrary, their refire actually is slow. Railguns launch projectiles, which is VERY different than the system here. We were thinking before that maybe if we base the Railguns off of a Missile system here opposed to a Gun system, or make the gun consume ammo, it would bring a powerful, but highly restrictive gun to the playing field.
That's what I've pictured a railgun as, but faster projectiles and not a laser.
But I would LOVE to see the railgun dded to the game.

EDIT 2: No...what I'm thinking of is like a long laser-type projectile with an explosive impact with a VERY high speed....It would just be best to call me confused....
Rail guns just imply that the projectile is proppelled nearly frictionless through the use of Magnetic rails inside the launch tube so to speak.
Gauss weapons are a soundless high speed very low refire rate weapon that suspends a projectile in the air through the use of magnetic fields, then propels it to incredible speeds by altering the magnetic fields in one end of the projectil.
