I think trade in a more realistic sense should be divided as such:

Level 1 trading: 2-3 hops within the same house / very small profit
Level 2 trading: 2-3 hops between different adjacent houses / fair pay (what we're used to today)
Level 3 trading: 1+ hops on each house / very good pay (something to really make a difference and attract big traders from lvl 2)
Level 4 trading: Routes that go in and out the houses and into hostile territories / an extra kick from lvl 3

Difference is, I think routes until lvl 3 should be openly divulged. It's just common knowledge between traders. The way I see it, our little world functions as such:

Routes attract trades, that attract pirates, that do lawfuls something to do, House raises from the ashes. Also, good routes should go really inside a house, as far as the capital. Like most Rheinland ones go to New Berlin (or at least the most practiced one). That means real activity inside a system, not something marginal. I go to Bretonia for trading, but I barely enter the house, I go as far as Leeds and then leave.

Maybe these routes do exist, but I think we should, in that case, drop the Discovery element and really make them known so traders will do something different. Also, these lvl 3 routes should pay considerably (50%) more than the lvl 2 ones. As for lvl 4's, they should pay some (10-20%) more than the level 3 ones.

your lvl 4 is great boost for pirates.... they just will fly this "lvl" in second character and earn easy money because nobody will rob them because they just say on PM chat who they realy are

beware... there are screenhunters waiting on your mistake... they need only 1

I would call this out of RP as well :)

The only in RP way to sponsor a pirate faction is to:

- run smuggler IDed and faction tagged traders to where you want

- run faction tagged and IDed trading ships that land only on unlawful bases (off course also junkers+zoner)

Don't say that it's not possible to fund a pirate faction like this.... how much doest it cost to equip and run a fighter? 20-40million in start cost.. then some 1 mil a week or less.

LH does fund themselves this way.

I would personally like to see decent prices for cardamine/artifacts on Los Angeles, Curacao and Denver. Maybe hike up the prices of artifacts on new london, or increase the prices of synthetic marijuana throughout bretonia or something.

Either way, hiking up selling prices of cardy and artifacts would actually get LSF spreading out to guard those areas from smugglers as well, not simply sitting in NY all the time like they do currently. If the prices on Los Angeles and Denver were at least more or less equal to that of manhattan (but maybe 100-150 credits less) in terms of artifacts and cardamine, it would mean the liberty patrols are forced to spread out to further stop cardamine and artifact smugglers, which would breathe additional life into cali and colorado (and even texas, probably). Instead of just everyone going through New York.

A similar thing could be done for Bretonia, at least tweaking some commodities there to entice some additional trade.

Actually, you can get a very nice price for Artifacts (don't know cardi, outcasts don't like me much) in Texas. Little out-of-the-way base of mildly ill repute. That's where I usually drop my stuff, 10x safer than traipsing through NY.

I like the idea, though, of spreading the wealth. But w/ NY being the top-price-buyer, you're still going to have people going for that extra 200,000cr from a full load.

Oh I know, it is where I originally tended to drop off artifacts after PvP was re-enabled in NY. But the junker base isn't somewhere that can really be useful to the LSF/USS/SA either, since its kind of out of the way. Still a good alternative route, though, but doesn't involve the LSF etc as much as it would with price increases on Los Angeles and Denver (both of which are supposed to be high class worlds with considerable wealthy elite and to whom there would be thriving markets for most illegal stuff).

This is true, to an extent, although I personally (and many others, i'm sure), would rather ship to Denver or LA since both are less risk. And think of it this way as well: the LSF + allies guard the Alaska JG in Zone 21 quite strictly these days and it is a increasingly risky route. An alternative is going through beta - Sigma 19 - Honshu - New Tokyo - Shikoku - Kepler/Galileo - Colorado. And if they can sell for almost as much on manhattan (but still 150 credits or so less), I would mostly prefer to sell there.

This means that I have to run the gauntlet with other pirates and KNF through Kusari, plus forcing the LSF to station more of their numbers guarding throughout Colorado/California (thanks to the route through Ontario that brings you out not far from Los Angeles). The same can be said for running through the Taus, or shipping artifacts through rheinland/omegas/bretonia. I don't know, I imagine the idea will still have a lot of detractors, no matter which way you put it, so i'll leave it up to you:)I hardly ever trade lately anyway.

Obviously this thread is about general trading routes, but I thought I would just throw this out there for discussion as well, since I think it would make a good difference to Disco as a whole (not to mention potentially less people running through/sitting in NY, which is always a good thing).

Although i would love to see factions funding themselves with their own trader, i don't think people welcome that idea.
Most pirate traders/smugglers are "Neutral", and "secret traders of Pirates".
They dock wherever they want, they smuggle whatever they want, they even trade legal goods.
It is in my eyes OORP.

On the subject, i totally agree with Gronath from above.
Very nicely done.
