Er, one tiny little point here, cruise disrupters don't seem to affect the big transports and that makes it really hard to keep a big transport in one place while you pound it.

That is a good point. Unfortunately, I dont know what to do about it

I usually fly with my HUD minimized, so I dont see if its a PC or NPC that fires at me. All I see is an incoming missile which Ill duly ignore (unless, of course, Im unlucky and gets disrupted).

As a pirate, I only see two options:

1) fire a missile and shout STOP!. That might get my attention (especially if its on a private channel), or
2) lurk outside a jumpgate, tradelane, or jumphole, fire a few warning shots and shout STOP! (again, using private channel is best).

Again, problem is that I dont pay much attention as to whos shooting at me. I simply see incoming fire, and I get the *bib* out of there. That is why sending a message is so important

And one more thing: if youre a white or green pirate, I will completely ignore you no matter how much you shout...

Whether someone appears white or green depends on your owns reps too. If you're neutral with most factions, both pirates and police will appear white to you. Someone could be loved by the Outcasts, Corsairs etc but will still not appear red on your HUD. I suppose that could be a disadvantage of being neutral - you won't immediately know they are pirates unless they have a tag.

Role-played characters:
daedalus - Liberty Navy
bandersnatch - Ruthless criminal possessed by a (huge) alien
Shredder - Small-time Kusari pirate, looking to join the Blood Dragons

I've noticed that some pirates use a [P] tag, so that'll help and you'll know if someone has a [Phantom] tag then they are definately a pirate

Plus most pirates I've seen use pirate ships and weapons so that's a big clue right there.

Well, I dont know about other traders. But I RP a trader character thats fairly friendly with the lawful factions and fiercely hostile towards most outlaw factions. Or at least, thats what Im telling myself Im still working on fine-tuning my reputation

So, if youre friendly with pirates, then you should turn up red on my HUD, right?

Yes, two of my characters would probably appear red to you.

3 or 4 of mine would Im still trying to get my zoner tag but it is kinda difficult when everyone hates you. I just have to kill lots of Xenos so everyone is neutral and Zoners are allied. If anyone knows a faster way I'd appreciate it.

Zoners hate you more when you kill Xenos.

There are also bribes available to hack your rep with the Zoners.

Good luck with your quest for a tag, Dab. I'm trying to get a Blood Dragon tag at the moment, I've managed to get them at the bottom of the list once, followed by their GC allies, but keeping them their is difficult. If I kill too many of one particular enemy, other factions like Red Hessians seem more impressed with me - even when running missions for the Dragons. I'll keep trying though, not going to give up just yet...

I've never been pirated, by anyone, but im sure that if i was, I would either fight, or fork over my money, dependant on the circumstances, I would never run to the nearest safe hold and hide out, if I had no money I'd have to take my chances with the fight wouldn't I...
