I think people should get to delete someone else's ship as a prize.

Or just get the pride of winning. Yeah that.

Yes please. One question though, you mentioned 'written during that time'. I currently have a short story going which is about to be finished, so I couldn't use that one? It's my biggest project so far and English is only my second language too.
Maybe make two sections: one for native speakers and one for non-native speakers.

Well, the entire idea is to see what you can produce on short notice, relevant to the theme. If the story you've currently got is good to go with the theme we pick, then... well, you're very lucky. Tongue

I am willing to help out those who don't speak/write English as a first language though. I'm sure there'd be plenty of people willing to volunteer as editors to help people improve their writing.

Aha, you're picking a theme, oh well then. But thanks for the offer, I was searching for someone to proof-read my stuff. I'd be glad if you could have a look over it once it's finished although it's probably not going to be taking part in the competition.

Sure thing - I'd be happy to take a look whether you're participating or not.

Also, remember that the 5,000 word limit is the absolute maximum. Some people can create a fantastic story with much, much less than that.

I'd definitely be game for this, sounds like fun and it gives me an excuse to practice my writing skills, which I really need to improve.

I am curious as to why the "theme" restriction is in place. A 5,000 word piece on a Freelancer related concept should be enough to spark interest. Creating a theme as for example "The first Nomad War and the fighting between Kusari and Rheinland" might appeal to a lessor number of writers than an open theme and word limit only. A good measure of a writers creativity is in selection of a theme for his/her piece. Why would you remove that?
