I like pip's (edited) idea. Mooring fixture has everything legal, docking ring has everything legal and illegal. Small ships will never know the difference, while large ships will never even see the smuggled goods (or have the opportunity to sell them for profit without assistance).

So someone could get an adv. train full of cardamine and bring it to Manhattan, but he'll need his buddy in a Camara to offload it for him, taking more time and splitting the profit two ways (and leaving more opportunity for the fuzz to show up).

Which brings another interesting dynamic into play.

I'm assuming most of the lawful smuggling points have local alternative drop sites (Like Manhatten and Rochester)

If I understand the proposal right, the large ships would still be able to sell direct to Rochester and the local (npc?) distribution network. Or work out their own method for shuttling to Manhatten and bypassing Rochester. Or take a little ship the whole way.

There's plenty of opportunities for turf wars and other fun stuff there.

Along with ID restrictions on smuggler ship size..How about rebalance the illegal commodity prices to accomodate for smaller sized ships

(although this would probably increase zoner guard whale spam)

example: im a zoner i can haul what i want

Like the idea of smaller ships to be used for smugling. But the big ships, pirate train, for example, will always be used for long runs. It would be nice if the smaller ships would be used for smaller runs, from Rochester to Buffalo, with a good profit. I like the freighters, the drone, the CSV, etc. Maybe they could get a bonus when a succesfull run is made, 2x or 5x. I guess this would be simplier than change the rings, one do this other do that. Is like the mining, specif id, ship and IFF give you bonus, so give bonus to certain ships with specific goods.

Just a contribution

I don't think we should care what faction hauls what. One, its restrictive for no purpose, and two, it takes a lot of work to pull off. We can add a simple game mechanich, rather than a rule, to enforce the freighters only thing.

The rochester and other unlaful points...yes. But I'd make sure that landing with cardi on dockingring-manhattan with ~600 (what's the biggest freighter?) earned more than landing on Rochester with 5000 cardie...which will take an interesting bit of math, to prevent the rochester/manhattan run from being..rediculous, if it can even be done. So we may have to 1: make rochester also two bases, or 2: not have rochester buy cardie.

Also...guys...Pip and I had very much the same idea. Congrats to Pip, great minds, etc.

' Wrote:A game mechanic implementation of mb52's idea:

Bases which buy the 'smuggle' commodities be set to only allow docking of the small ships, in the same manner as the rogue dessies.

In that manner, we could rebalance the prices of the smuggle commodities to be worth a great, great deal (like, 10x what they are now) so that that 500 cargo ship is just about the same as a 5000 cargo ship.

This involves making manhattan, and a couple other bases, into two bases. Linking the mooring fixture to one, and the ring to another, only the ring buying cardamine or blood diamonds or whichever.

It would require a lot of careful balancing to make sure people couldn't just haul a big load to Rochester, while also keeping it so you can't load up a freighter at Rochester and make a huge profit on Manhattan.

To those that came up with this idea, I say this:

Brilliant!

Gives the freighters some love, and gets the illegal stuff going to the ports where it SHOULD be going for redistribution......

Again, Brilliant!

Thats why i sugested the method used by mining ships, IDs and IFFs.
For example, a CSV would make 7x more when it would dock.

if the IFF thing is implemented, I fear that more people will join the Junkers just to make money (as opposed to joining for the RP )
as the new swarm of Junker miners near Pittsburgh show

Unfortunately, power trading will exist in some form or another. Look at the Zoners right now. ZOner Guard ID power traders in Whales. Before that it was adv. Trains, untagged. I am not saying its right, just that all you can do is to try and minimize it.
Also, Give the Rogues some love, they are supposed to be moving cardi for the Outcasts, so include them in the bonus.
