I hate fighting Kusari gunboats. They are the anti-me. This isn't me asking for a nerf on them, you know. I'm just saying.

I like having an anti-me.

While I wouldn't mind seeing BRs having a boost against gunboats and up, there are some people who snipe all sorts with them. Would it be fair to increase the power and instagib bombers? (Rhetorical question, disqualifying previous statement)

Range was purposely reduced to limit anti cap effectiveness of gunboats. No longer can you set at 1.4k and fight cruisers with an all-round turret loadout while strafing their turret fire. You have to get close with gunboat turrets. Razors and pulses are obviously an exception to this.

3 battle razors insta-kills most bombers (the barghest and fafnir survive). They do the right amount of damage, I believe.

Edit: Damage buff? You should have used them in 4.84. They were much worse back then. They're perfectly useable now.

Well, back in .84, i was limited to having a lunchbox missileboat (which i loved very much, no matter what anyone said!) until i got my cruiser, so ive not really got any experience of .84 BRs.

Another thing is, cerberus turrets imo use slightly too much energy, just a tiny little reduction would be nice.

On topic... I would like to see GB turrets (not razors/infernos/missiles, just the normal turrets) bumped up to 1000m range at least. As it is, I can sit at 200m from a zoner juggernaut in my order gunboat, and my turrets still wont hit it. That could be due to the ship's size, but seriously... my turrets have shorter range than most fighter guns, how does that make any sense at all when I'm larger and slower than a bomber?

Still, I purchased an order gunboat a couple days ago, and in the first engagement I took it into, I was thoroughly violated by bombers in under 20 seconds. Something is wrong when the class of ship that is -designed- to go up against fighters and bombers cannot do that job effectively, especially in fleet engagements. Gunboats are not useful at all against other capships, they're strength is supposed to be agaisnt smaller craft... so why do they suck so much in that role?

It's just like the issue with fighters vs bombers in fleet engagements. If fighters are designed to escort caps and take out enemy bombers, why are they incapable of doing that job effectively?

Since 4.84, it seems like:

-Fighters have lost all ability to perform escort duties for caps against bombers
-Gunboats have lost all of their versatility, and were given a new role that they absolutely suck at because a few people missileboated in 4.84
-Cruisers have become probably the most useless ship class in the mod, only able to take out smaller cruisers and gunboats - useless against everything else.

Right now, if you dont fly a battlecruiser, battleship, or bomber, you might as well not even play the game.

giving the standard gb turrets a buff up to 1000m range would not overpower them against caps. Light gunships aside, I can hit most gb's at that range with mortars.

agreed.. GB's = specialized. mount gb turrets to counter fighters/bombers, or mount pulses and razors to take on a more anti-cap role (even though if you have good aim, you can instakill fighters/bombers with dual/triple razors like im doing at the mo).

i think gb's are fine as they are at the moment (i fly a liberty rogue gunboat, and a bh gunship)

In fleet engagements, where the gunboats are presumably anti-bomber oriented, you don't need to worry about being violated by bombers, because they're all staring straight at the Legate or Osiris or whatever over your shoulder. Pack on some standards/solaris (or cerbs if you can hit something with them that isn't jousting) and a missile or two, you have yourself some dead bombers.

Or so I would assume, at any rate.

I mean BRs are weak against caps, they do so little dammage (its not painful, not for the caps anyway). I dont use them against fighters, only against other caps (GBs and cruisers mainly), though i resorted to putting 4 cerberus guns on my imperetor just to do well against caps.
