The head basically "tractors" in the ore with those tentacles down there slightly pushing it towards his head.
Ofcourse mining is done differently in actual play (via guns) but collector has those "hands" as well.
Basically the head intakes the ore chunks then, and they pass trough filtration that purges the ore from the rest of the rock that's redundant then and gets thrown back in space trough the middle of the ship, while compressed cargo heads towards the back storage tanks.
It contributes to pollution - but that's Leeds' problem.
For the alien organism / Fuel mining, I would say it just travels trough the pockets filled with organisms / Fuel and tractors in the things, while ejecting those parts that aren't necessary.
It's a more advanced system, and I believe that Kishiro can master it.
If it can be done, let it be done.
But losing the head places it step closer to everyone and their mother wanting one. I actually like that people are divided on this. Means they're less prone to want to buy it for their Rheinland miner and then get some trouble on them.
If I can also say, I'm glad that people either love it or hate it, its cool noone is indifferent.
I for one, do not approve of this model. It doesent look "Freelancer-ish" to be a mining ship. Whatever that means.
i also do not think that samura/kishiro should get a diffrent mining ship, even more so if the hitbox/model would be smaller then the current mining ship.
But, besides the head, i think it may have a place somewhere. Just, not as a mining ship please.

this version has no dragon head - but goes a lot further into the future in terms of kusari design.
keep in mind - this is a concept, too. - i am well aware that the wings make the whole ship a good deal larger ( which is not to its advantage in terms of being hit by supernovas or flying through asteroids )
i am also aware that it might look a good deal too advanced. - well.... thats why its a concept.
