My Hegemon character has a defined personality and a background (and could probably be considered a more in-depth character than most, if not all, of the group miners in Dublin), and regardless of these facts he should produce less than a pack of lulwutting Hegemons and Trains. We come up with so many 'great' ideas that look excellent on paper at a glance but have holes like the proverbial Swiss cheese, which then become evident once implemented. Then we cover up and explain away the holes. Group mining making more is fine with me, but I shouldn't be screwed out of profits because I have a higher standard than the miners around me.
I was being the devil's advocate. I think we should just buff group mining, so that more people do that. Enough of this bloody nerfing, no one likes nerfs unless they're cut up into medallions and roasted, with a light sauce. More buffs. '_'
That way, we give incentives to work with other people, while letting solo miners continue merrily along, which is as it should be.

I think the issue with solo mining, that many have, is that most if not all cases of "omg noob miners always f1!!!!" are solo miners, who don't RP, who don't talk, who don't play fair, who are just doing it to get their lolcap juggy or dread.
Another case against it is that solo mining is just too gorram easy to set up and, as long as you're clever with regards to pirates, easy to run, relatively. Almost all of the lolwut miners we hear about are hegemons. If group mining were made more lucrative than solo mining, sure the group won't RP well at first, but if a few veterans help out within the group, that's a whole group that could learn to RP well and become valuable members of the community.
And those are the two reasons I came up with off the top of my head, but it's really early and I have to go to school so sorry if they're not the greatest.
There are lolwut Pirates, lolwut Outcasts, lolwut Kusari, lolwut... everything! And do you know what they do? They fly solo, and their RP is disgusting. Should we remove/nerf their ships as well? kk

No, we ought to just banhammer them as they appear. Whack-a-fool.

And by removing it you remove few factions, you remove major fun for all involved. You remove 2/3 of the player interactions in game. Chances to get something on the line as pirate are smaller then get something in system full with miners/hauers. Yes mining is good because it encourage team-play. I robbed 1 bill from miners not because I am mega- good PvP pirate and kill 5 mining ships against me, but because we done it in a gank- at least 2 or 3 people together. Some miners done it too. They haven't lost anything or much due to pirates. The only one who are not needed are SINGLE miners and SINGLE pirates- in this situation there is no difference between trader being robbed and miner being robbed.
God forbid pirates would actually have to work for a living.
Mining is good. It brings people together. I recon in the past it was planned to be a high-yielding group activity. Yet because everyone could just buy a Hegemon and do it solo, everyone did. So my suggestion:
Turn off Hegemon's mining bonus.
That way, all the mining would be done in snubcrafts, so if someone wants to make a profit, he needs to find sellers / buyers. Believe me, places like Dublin syschat would be filled with solid miner / hauler roleplay.
My reply from the thread what's too long for anyone to read. I want to remind those that willing to defend the Hedge for emotional reasons: At this moment there's no mining. So this proposal is about giving mining bonus to four ships, not to nerf anything. 1K cargo sounds good.
Removing hegemon? Nonsense, shall we for once start working on some adjustments and tweaks instead of just shuting down or removing things, jesus...till 4.86 is out we will be barely have cash for regens, meh....

Oh for god's sake. I rarely if ever mine but still manage to afford three combat ships and regens/ammunition for all of them just by trading - stop spreading fallacies.
