its just an excuse to have a little fun

which you naysayers seem incapable of doing

admiral...marshal..whatever
make a few minor changes to satisfy your nitpicking and have some fun eh?

otherwise make your own damn event

+1

Sometimes this community fails epicly in giving good advice/helping people along, and seem mostly satisfied by bashing other people relentlessly. Why not say "perhaps it would work if you do like this..." instead of just saying "that won't work. full stop." or "we are the official faction and we do not condone that you have not contacted us first, and because of that, we will never participate in your ideas"? Please let's just give each other a break insted of this...(!)

What if the "admiral" was a civvy VIP (or some valuable object of sorts, like intel etc.), the HMS ship's captain insubordinate yet somehow by a strike of pure luck capturing someone/something of enough value for the BAF to lauch its fleet to help out etc.?

In short; The entire premise of this event is a crock. You're trying to say a GRN military leader would travel in a contested war zone (Orkney) in a Luxury Liner. There is problem #1. It wouldn't happen. No GRN use a Liner to travel. If they are important to the war effort in any possible way, they'd travel in a military ship. Even civilians important to the war effort would receive transport provided by the military that would include far stronger defense than a liner.

Problem #2; Your assumption that the "frogs" would hand over this VIP because you shot at their liner and scared them. Well first, most GRN officers are fanatically loyal due to the 6 centuries of propaganda the crown has used to turn the King into a godly figure. Gallia defines "Divine Right" in every sense of the concept. Second, a Liner is faster than a battleship. Third, if a Liner were carrying a VIP, it'd have an escort, which would stop the battleship and distract it, letting the Liner escape with relative ease to one of the two stations in Orkney that the GRN controls.

Problem #3; You see yourself separate from the BAF. You're not.

Problem #4; You were devised and are controlled by some "shadow elements" in the government. You're forgetting that the BAF is a heavy political and governmental force in Bretonia, and that the Bretonian Intelligence Service is also directly under the control of the military. Furthermore, here in Disco we actually do have a player run government. Jammi, the one who plays the Prime Minister, certainly hasn't devised or commissioned the 13th fleet. And please don't try to come back and claim you have the Queen's backing. Because you don't. The War Cabinet, that being the leadership of the official factions in Bretonia, own the Queen character. Lastly, it doesn't matter if some "shadow elements" devised the idea of the 13th. They wouldn't be able to implement it. They have no military power. Every military decision must have the acceptance of the Fleet Admiral or Minister of Defense. And that is myself and Dieter. Think about the resources a fleet needs. You can't "hide" an active fleet. It has to be given battleships, cruisers, etc. Has to be supplied regularly, etc. All that requires approval by military personnel. Involvement of military personnel. And this concept of a behind-enemy-lines battleship fleet would never be approved.

Problem #5; First you said you have killed 5 Valors with your Dunkirk. Then you claimed 8. Well in the first two days of the GRN blitz into Leeds, I've seen you kill no GRN period, let alone Valors, meanwhile I saw you get killed 3 times. I haven't heard of that pattern changing in the last week.

Problem #6; Jumpdrives haven't been fully developed yet. The BAF don't have access to them, they are still safely tucked away in Kishiro's vault. I might understand calling jumpdrives to justify some of your lore, were jumpdrives available yet. Alas, they are not.

Problem #7; Troops do need support, yes. Unfortunately for this idea, the troops on the front line operate directly under the commands of the Grande Marechal, the leader of the GRN. That Grande Marechal operates on the front lines with the fleet, as is proper for a military leader to do in Gallia's feudal-monarchy-style culture. Add on the fact that two of the King's children, Aurelia DeFrance (the Grande Marechal) and Joseph DeFrance (the king's only son) also operate on the front lines, also in keeping with Gallia's feudal-monarchy-style culture. That's quite a bit of morale support and shows that the King is devoting all of his resources to this campaign. Then add in the rapid victories in the Taus and Edinburgh and you've got a lot of morale boosting going on. Sure, there would be people sent to the front lines. Some for military reasons, others for morale reasons, and then civilian reasons. But no one important to the war effort would be travelling there in a lone liner. The notion is silly.

Problem #8; World War II wasn't won by Britain going all out against Germany. World War II was won by Britain hunkering down on their islands after the defeat of France and fending off Germany's air attacks on the Isles until Germany invaded Russia and started getting pushed back.

Britain did not win the war alone, by sending troops behind enemy lines. We use spies for that, not battleships.

This event is nonsensical no matter which direction you're looking at it from.

Aww well I guess that pretty much counts you out then Dab!!! Well TBH I guess I am happy now none of the BAF| or GRN| will be coming because we cant have lulz when your around anyway.

This event will be an indy event and will go ahead anyway!

All those interested in signing up for this pewpew event please register your interest and ship below.

We need: 1 Valor, 2 GRN Obstinate Cruisers, 1 GB and 4 Snubs (Bombers / Lynxs) for the GRN side and
for the BAF Side: 1 (damaged) Dunkirk Battleship will be provided by myself, 4 Bretonia Destroyers, 1 GB and 2 Snubs.
That means the event will be 8 players on each side, during the event the BAF BS will not fight but sit there badly damaged waiting to be rescued surrounded by GRN Warships.

If the BAF destroy the GRN Fleet then I will be rescued and thus BAF win but if however the GRN destroy the BAF rescue fleet then I will then be destroyed after and the GRN will rescue their VIP from my hold and will thus win the event.

As an incentive the winning team will receive a Prize of 100 Million Credits that will be given to the leader of the winning side to split amongst their team mates.

Sure, go ahead then, just one more thing: how can there be a "leader" of the side if this is indy-only event? The one in biggest ship is rarely the most trustworthy guy, just split the prize evenly, have fun and everything.

I'm BAF| member, so I doubt I would be welcome, and my connection is so crappy these days that I would just warp around. Loss around 15% is about normal for me, so you get the idea, I'm just throwing my ideas and opinions here and there, I might try to think of an event idea in a month or something, we'll see.

If Argo succeeded to capture the admiral from the exploding liner, if his battleship was on dry cleaning, why wouldn't the GRNs be able to capture him from the exploding Argosax? They wouldn't have to send their soldiers in, just pop the BS. Also, BAF wouldn't risk to loose more ships just to save one battleship. As well, it's not advised to go to hostile territory with just one BS. Except this, it's a great story. I think you should change those flaws and make it an indie event, without official BAFs. Indies are less skilled in bargaining. I'll sign if I don't find room for my Dunkirk in the BAF vs. GRN event on Saturday, 7pm. And if you allow one more Dunkirk to be there, I can give the orders. I think you should delete some of our destroyers, you can clearly see that our fleet is more powerful.

That's not really balanced, unless you have some really crappy pilots for the BAF destroyers.
