yea, the change to NPC difficulty hurts the new guys the most. Nobody even bothers doing missions here when they first start because it's suicide to even try.
Likewise, at the high end of things... when you're flying a decked out VHF, Bomber, or Capship and missions only pay 200-300k tops... while you're spending a good 30 minutes on each mission and often spend upwards of 100k in repairs and ammunition... it just isnt worth it. A trade can make a dozen times the amount of credits you do, and they dont have to stress out trying to shoot targets that lag out constantly.
When I started my Lib navy character I attempted to buy my way by only using missions. I worked my way to about whatever the light fighter manhattan sells (other than the patriot) then was forced to transfer funds from my trader. Its just impossible to avoid trading with the current difficulty/payout ratio on missions.
For the corsairs, the missions pay nicely. They average around 300k - 800k (even 1mil in a very rare case) but you end up fighting either 10-20 fighters or a capship and 4 fighters.
Missions should be simply more profitable, Nuff said... 3x 5x something like that more profitable than now... This is a very easy fix, that really needn't be overlooked...

I'd say we make missions 5x more profitable. That sounds about right. That would mean that it would not be uncommon to get one offering 1 mill, which would actually make missions USEFUL. Right now, their only real use is for rep.
I believe that the Zoner vs. Nomad missions were brought up once before. Sounds like a great Idea to me, and same goes for the Order vs. Nomads one. I REALLY don't understand why the Order doesn't offer those. Oh, and the Isis needs more missions. Badly. You can only get one at a time, and that's very, very, very annoying if you need to fail missions to lower your Order rep or do missions to increase it.
Earlier tonight I was doing missions on my xeno to raise rep. I fly an arrow fighter, with two black widows, nuclear mines, and a mosquito disruptor (primarily because it does more hull damage than the other disruptors, and I use it as a missile launcher when doing npc missions agaisnt the low level junkers/bounty hunters).
The highest paying mission I got on ouray was 17,500 credits for taking out... around 18 junker CSV's. They werent hard to kill... but it took a good 15-20 minutes to finish the mission.
When I got back to Ouray, I had made approximately 18-19k from recovered weapons, cargo, and the mission payout itself. I turned around and payed over 60k in ammunition afterwards... more than three times what I got in payment.

...Sorry, I tend to disagree.. I have a new character in a defender, and every credit earned is from missions only. (Not suicide)... I do agree that some bases need to have missions adjusted in pay and difficulty. But, when you take into consideration the payout from the loot, (credit cards, etc..), the pay isnt that bad.. And so what if you don't make as much as trading? If we worried only about money, we all be doing nothing but trading, IMO....

I dont think you got the point.
Have you played on a normal, un-modded freelancer server?
The npc missions pay the same amount, but are a hell of a lot easier - NPC's dont use bats/bots, and they arent as 'smart' as they are here.
Relative to vanilla freelancer, discovery is on hard-mode when it comes to npc fights.
Depending on your level and reputation (I think that's what it is anyway) you can find missions up to about 850k
in some systems although usually their more about the 750k mark although whether their worth the time and repairs of course is another matter and by the time you get to the stage you can achieve those missions you don't need the credits anyway.

Any mission paying that much is impossible to do solo in a fighter, hell even in a bomber.
Unless you're working in groups (in which case the payout is drastically reduced, as it's split among group members) or flying a capital ship, the missions simply arent worth the time and effort.
