I don't want to be in a faction with a player who has characters in the opposing faction to the one im in. Other factions on the other side of Sirius not directly opposed to the one i'm in, sure, but not directly opposing ones.

I follow the theory that a person cannot "unsee or unhear" something, even if they try to or say that they "ignore" it, the person still sees or hears the info...

I subscribe to this as well--it's clans that are the problem here.

If they have a regular smuggling route that I use as a member--I know the players, times, cargoes and paths. If I play an enemy, I may or may not have been able to figure it out but I am always haunted by should I pretend I know or not?

It makes any choice I take suspect. Do I "lose an intercept" because I might be influenced by what I know, or do I go ahead and ignore that I know a lot more than I do know about it?

There are limits to how far you can go into something and still be objective and unbiased.

I have one conflicting character at the moment but I am keeping them apart in day to day activities and insuring neither is part of someone's group. I had planned on dropping one over the other but have had people on each side of the fence ask me to please not. I would never "join a clan" with these. It would be unfair to all.

I will restrict the range of play for on or the other depending on my interaction with other players.

Just me.

Belonging to opposing NPC factions is legitimate; belonging to a bunch of opposing player factions isn't.
