I'm with Mjolnir on this one, we did a heck of a job, so far,... the general idea is: "powerplant that is better than what you have is only obtainable by rebuying the ship" so consider it an upgrade, you can get, but you don't need to. Hell you can fly your old BS with your old powerplant, and roleplay all you want, even win battles and such, but if you wan't the latest your faction provides, you will have to bring it in, buy a new powerplant, wich will cost you about half in what the hull costs;)... it goes the same for any upgrade... those ships that could be spared from upgrade costs were, those that we couldn't spare we didn't...

I've just spent 400 hours over the past 4 months upgrading trade routes. If nerfing was on the agenda I would have been done within a week or two, instead of still going home every night after work and spending 3 hours working on it 5 nights a week so that people could enjoy playing a free game, which has not been free at all for myself and the other people who have spent a huge amount of their time working to improve it.
But at least you're appreciative and grateful and don't spread unfounded falsehoods. That makes it all worthwhile.
Check out my Trade Development Blog

Of course they are grateful that you have spent time and effort on the project.
However, they frankly would not want to spend boring time power-trading for the best equipment again. They thought they were finished with this. They thought, okay, we have set ourselves up now we have done everything in this aspect we can move onto other more fun aspects. Like using the ship.
(Nerfing would be removing the Diamonds-Niobium route, and yes I do know how overpowered that is. However combined with the constant rumours of capital ships going to cost more and trading routes going to spout less, it has people wondering how many more hours they are going to have to put into trading.)
So yes, keep throwing sarcasm-laced guilt-tripping statistics.

WHAT!
You HAVE TO put time into trading cause you HAVE TO get that bs?
Right....
Even the "crappy" trade routes give you now around 20 mil/hour in transport with over 4500 cargo.
You know just as well as me that you need maximum 1-2 hours to get enough money to completely set up a fighter and have enough money for it for a month.

Who says the time has to be boring? It's called a ROLE-PLAYING server for a reason. So make up something for your trader to do.
And for that matter, who says you have to have the best equipment to enjoy the game? I'm enjoying the hell out of the Disco mod - and my biggest non-faction ship is an Orca gunboat. My biggest FACTION ship is one I rarely fly, unless it's for a special mission - and that's a BH gunship. Other than that - it's fighters and bombers. (Technically, I suppose my Advanced Train counts as the largest ship I fly - but I also RP that if I can, and it's not all power trading - it's in character for the 'faction subsidiary'.)
I'm quite happy for any mods which increase the enjoyment of playing the game.

I find it a little annoying that you absolutely must trade to purchase any big ship. I have -a lot- of characters active (nowhere near someone like Dab, but I digress) and many more in development. Sometimes we don't have a trader we RP. So we absolutely must have one to buy any big ship? What's the reasoning behind this? Very rarely does someone write a story on how they -really- came about their capital ship, in which they traded and traded and traded and then waltzed up to the local shipyard and ordered their Osiris/Dread/Dessie etc.
What needs to be done is higher paying missions. Harder missions. Right now we trade and trade (with some of us, a lot of us, doing so silently) and then do a totally ooRP /givecash to a new character. Battleship away!
I know it's probably unavoidable, I just find it a little dumb that you have to RP a trader to make any real amount of money here. Why can't we add new sources of income, really?
' Wrote:...and then do a totally ooRP /givecash to a new character. Battleship away!
If you want to be nit-picky about it, purchasing any battleship at all (with the possible exception of the battlestars) is OoRP. After all, they aren't sold at all, but are placed under the command of a high-ranking officer. Don't quibble over using /givecash when you still have to buy the dang thing.
Oh, and please, nobody bash on the devs for their hard work. They've put a lot of hours into this, and we should appreciate the very fact that they're even bothering to put all this time and effort into improving a game that we all love rather than bashing them for the way they're doing it.
@mjolnir: I believe you answered my previous question.
Nah, I'm not nitpicking it. I /givecash to start (almost) all my characters up. I think it's a touch more ooRP to have them start on 'Hattan in a Starflea. Just saying, it being utterly necessary to make up some trader to make it ever possible to fly a BS seems kind of lame to me. (And no, I will never fly a BS.)
You totally ignored my point and jumped on a misunderstanding... Maybe comment on the actual point?

I do not have a BS, however, I will be getting one soon. I have to maintain 5 cruisers. You know as well as I do that 1-2 hours will not cover them for a month in maintenance. Not to mention my other how many characters. Regardless, there is no point to this. I will play by whatever you think is best and adapt to what is before me.
My apologies to anyone who feels that I have offended their balancing skills, or the effort they have put in. This was not my intention.

Be surprised... LH flagship was financed FULLY from pirating and even getting parts for it was RPed.:shok:
