+1
That's exactly how I see it.
Me watching the daily drama turn into yet another Disco-doomsday discussion:

inRP - Your life is priceless and under death-penalty in this situation even 75-100 M SC might be fair demand
especially if You add to the list worth of cargo, ship and equipment.
However there is actually the unwritten rule that pirates cannot state unreal demands ( formerly under rule 0.0 )
yet this particular situation do not fall into such description. Since such might be used / sanctionable when eg.
pirate demand several millions from a under-level player or amount credits which exceed ship, equipment and cargo worth.

It should work both ways. Would you agree that "A good roleplayer doesn't demand too much, because he plays trader for roleplaying, not for making profit." ? If not, then it can´t work.
Also while I agree that fairness can be factor to consider, this is still Discovery RP 24/7 server, not Discovery Fairness 24/7 one.
I personally enjoy good piracy interaction. I never avoid lanes. I never check the player list. But then again, my pilots have names and small background and I rp.

That's why I said you should negotiate or hire an escort.
It's simple: If you want people to play on this roleplay server, you should keep in mind that both sides need to have fun. If you insist on being a pirate like pirates actually are (non-disney/non-one-piece), people don't have fun. That's why I think even a bloody pirate in FL should give other people a chance, lowering their demands a bit, depending on the roleplay quality. You want to have fun as a pirate, but if every encounter in border worlds means I have no other option than dropping the whole cargo or paying so much that I would need up to three long trade routes to make profit again, then people shouldn't wonder why the "noobs" stay at Penny and do Helium runs, guarded by BHG and Liberty Cruisers. You simply have to find a good middle point. I think fair roleplay is better than authentic, evil roleplay. That's all I'm implying.
And like I said before, this also means the trader simply has to accept some losses, be it being taxed by a pirate, avoiding trade lanes or hiring escorts.
No way to form an opinion on this , as my laptop is being stupid and cannot see those images .
A good pirate will lay in wait , and ambush his/her target , disrupting the tradelane and cd'ing their target. In that moment of confusion is when the pirate should make his demands. Then the ball in in the traders court.....fight , flight , or talk. ANY GOOD pirate is willing to talk , sometimes at length , for upwards of 5 minutes to over an hour (good rp happening here)...providing the "target" also knows how the "game" is played.
The problem lies on both sides sometimes.....the power-trader only looking at credits per second, the pirate only wanting to take all the cargo and cash.
I remember back when a pirate actually had to TYPE OUT what his demands are........and then the pirates whined and wanted a macro...set message......so now the pirates would punch message #1...followed by punching message #2.....followed by firing all guns. This would all happen in about 5 seconds.
That was followed by an uproar of players , because the pirates would never allow for their "mark" to respond. Pirates would claim " I rp'ed and here is the screens to prove it.....and then came rule changes and such.
Good players and good pirates both "know the drill" , and it CAN be a good rp experience for both. Bad player and bad pirate.....not so much fun .
But I will say this.....ANY pirate who is asking for an amount of cargo that they are not able to load up themselves and drive away is most likely is doing it " for the lutz" , or in a worst case , is really doing it to grief others...and that is his excuse for his actions.
Remember...#1 Its a role playing game....#2 Space IS dangerous...#3 Never forget to put yourself in the other players shoes , and see how YOU would like it , being on the receiving end of the demands .
Now..go have fun.

You don't rp. Or avoid inrp/oorp consequences. How boring.
Yup, I'm trading for money, what else for I could trade? I try to avoid interaction with pirates because I'm very, very greedy person if we're talking about my personal stuff, like a train filled with ore, which I had to mine by myself.
If I want to trade for interaction with pirates, I'm purchasing a "Serenity" with Dulzians and cap8, filling my transport with useless craipe and jumping right into their mouths.
The problem is that I can't see any sense in trading for interaction.
