The reason why I suggested it as a form of punishment ... was because I thought that ... it was -reversible-. It still would have been an extremely harsh sanction, but it was carried out with that in mind - that there was a way to restore it.

The fact that anyone thought applying a sanction so harsh that it would necessarily have to be reversed was an appropriate reaction to anything anyone could possibly do in Discovery speaks volumes about the judgment of the people involved.

That actually wasn't the bad here, as it's demonstrating it's not just talks, but there actually -is- a button to make you disappear from the forums for good.
The bad here is that it was done without consulting others before in the belief it could be reversed, which obviously isn't the case.
So not pressing that button is the issue, but pressing it irresponsibly.

Get the snapshot DB of the forum that is 1 week old. Start exporting only posts made by Shiki then import those DB entries into the current DB of the running forum. Of course that would probably only be possible if IDs in the database tables didn't get overwritten or something after the purge. I'm not an expert here though, never did any MyBB administrating.

I don't do DB snapshots anymore as I now do the backups at instance level.
Basically I'd have to set up a whole new instance with duplicated volumes just to retrieve a few posts.

Alley, Shiki has been a member - or at least their forum account has existed - since May 19th, 2015. That's one year, eight months, and twelve days of time they have spent making roleplay, participating discussions, and having leaving their mark - for better or worse - on the community.

Yes, it's annoying. Yes, it's one person. Yes, I would be absolutely livid if I had to do it too. But a day of your time cannot possibly be more valuable than over a year and a half of somebody's personal history.

Set up the instance, retrieve the posts, and give Spazzy whatever punishment the admin team deems reasonable for this colossal SNAFU. There isn't any other responsible option you can take.

Yes, and all of that they decided to put on the table and knowingly risk for a simple gag, even after two warnings were put into the thread prior to their post. The member is still expected to take some sort of accountability as well.

Have to give you this. From the context known to me playing such a card (with the reversing in mind as you had) was justified. Just shit it all didn't go as expected.

There is a wealth of incredibly harsh and incredibly creative ways to punish someone in this community. The fact that you went for the most nuclear of nuclear options right off the bat is not excusable.
