I'd say "no". Creating guns (or, to be more exact, custom projectiles and balancing them) is a crapload of work, and it's simply not worth it. Instead, I'd go with Dusty's suggestion though - expand the civilian line. It certainly could use some love.

I'd say yes in a sense.

One large civilian weaponry producer with several variants of gun designs depending on what a Corporation wishes for.

I think the corporations which operate in hazardous regions should have their own guns. DSE, certainly.

Actually, we could save some time by simply using the effects of low level guns that no one uses and copy pasting the stats of already existing guns.

Also for people saying that shooting things isn't the corporations jobs, go to Rheinland where there are a lot of NPCs around, they fight the pirates more then the police and military do.

First off, no to the corporations idea. Expanding the existing civilian line would be an interesting possibility, but I think only Particle and Plasma weapons should be added. What's the point of adding a bunch of weapons with overlapping refires. They are civilian weapons, they should be specialized enough to fit the needs of your casual pilot, not be specialized enough to win a war.

@Elsdragon: Isn't that the point? If transports stood a chance against pirates, nobody would bother with piracy. Sure they can be annoying, but it'd interfere with the diversity of the server.

Err... Mind explaining why only particle and plasma should be added?

Edit: Tell me, why should the corporations not have their own gun line? Lets look at the IMG and Daumann, the IMG like all guilds have their own weapons, while Daumann uses civilian guns like all corporations (I think this is because the boys over at DA were running out of time and started cutting corners wherever they could) Now lets look at what they do: Daumann and IMG are both in mining, Daumann is also in arms production, ship building (Oder is one of the largest shipyard in Sirius, check the infocard) amongst other things, Daumann is for all means and purposes larger on every level, disco silliness aside. Daumann and IMG also operate in similar danger zones, granted the IMG have proded farther into the dangerous edge worlds, but considering the fact that Rheinland is the most dangerous of the houses and that the IMG are located partially in the relatively safe Bretonian religion I think this makes up for it.

So, to sum it up, two groups, both in more or less the same business, in similar areas of danger, with one considerably larger then the other, the smaller one makes its own guns, while the larger one has to rely on widely available civilian weaponry, tell my how the larger one shouldn't have their own gun, oh and this covers fighter guns, not Transport turrets just to be clear.... However the NPC IMG do use their own transport turrets....

Granted some of the less space faring groups probably shouldn't get some, like Ageira who don't operate outside of the safety of Liberty (Their level 20 NPCs fly starfleas) and IC who don't even have any NPC. (Go look at their faction file in th .inis, they have no ships assigned to their faction... even though they have pilot heads and faction prefixes)

Tell me, what kind of company would knowingly put its employees in danger? There's a reason why they make guns for their ships: so they have the ability to defend themselves. The problem is that right now, they are too underpowered.

Carlos Rivera: Corsair Brotherhood Pirate - Retired, shifted to Tripoli Shipyard's Research and Development engineering teams
Anthony Cameron: Guild Core Bounty Hunter - Killed in Action, committed suicide after being trapped in Omicron Minor following its destruction
Juan Ruiz: Outcast Ghost of Razgriz Pirate - Killed in Action, killed by the Sirius Coalition Revolutionary Army during Bretonian piracy raid
Michael Winchester: Liberty Security Force Agent - Missing in Action, likely killed during Rheinland espionage mission or trapped in Rheinland Space
Eric McCormick: Order Pilot - Retired, shifted to planetside training of new recruits

Liberty and Nomad Backstory, Very interesting - read it!

If Transports and Freighters would stand a chance against pirates, trading would be (still, but) less frustrating and pirates would have to work in groups (like they should).

It's incredibly simple to avoid the costs of R&D and Manufacturing these weapons. Get someone else to do it.

That is what I am saying for this. A single manufacturing corporation that brings out a line of Corporate Escort weapons and sells them to the corporations. Better than normal civilian weaponry but not as good as military.
