Actually, the Corsairs are based on the pirates of the Barbary Coast, who happened to be North African. So whoever made that comparison has a point.

Also, I wonder what it means to "get some culture" because someone made a reference to Africa...

No. It's not enough. They don't have the economic might to even compete with the major houses. They don't have the natural resources. They don't have the numbers. The Corsairs are starving, Outcasts are junkies. Even if they ally it is unlikely that they can win any sustained war.

Pirates best describe it. As I described it, you're in a permanent depression. It's like you're Oliver Twist only everyone else you know is Oliver Twist too. Pirate everything you can get your hands on, because you can't survive by any other means. We have nothing to trade or export and hardly enough food to live from year to year. We have to steal, and so we steal, and we thrive through theft. If we cannot steal, we cannot live.

The Corsairs as we are is a culture based completely on theft. We are pirates, and that's just what we are. Because of that, we cannot live amid the other Houses as they do; through trade and commerce unless we can grow substantially in size. We are to stagnant in our piratical ways unless this unprecedented growth happens. That's what I can see about the Corsairs.

We're pirates, through and through, because we have to be.

See right there, that attitude... **sighs**

You know full well what i was refering to, but still you had to come and say this...

(well probably you don't know..., but appears some people around here thinks the real world works like disco...)

C'mon people this is a good discussion, but coming here comparing this with real life is just a fail.

I was thinking of making a corsair, they're fun and I like their area(s) of operation.
But i dont know their RP mechanics, you know. Like the Navies ranks, would it be the same as the houses? So I can accurately type up my RP story and not be tottaly stupid. I know they say Hola and stuff.

They seem to me like generic carribean-style pirates.

Actually, comparing with real life is win. By "real life" I mean history, which is pretty much the basis of everything we're talking about here. Agmen provided a link to the wiki about the original Barbary Corsairs, and after reading it I realized that it's exactly how I picture the Corsairs in-game. At least, the pirating side of them; there's also the general populace on Crete who lead out their lives in much the same way as any other civilian population. When I think of the cities on Crete, I imagine them resembling Cairo or Istanbul - that's just me though.

Of the two, I think Corsairs will develop into a house and Outcasts will sort of burn out... given their nomad relationship nowadays... A new Wilde?

Bollocks.

The Outcasts have ties to Bretonia, the actual government of Bretonia, and our structure resembles a house better than the Corsairs. We have criminal elements, a lot of them, but we also have a stable government and an actual navy instead of a bunch of rowdy ruffians banding together when their home is threatened.

And on the Nomad relations: There are only a select few who gives that serious consideration in-rp, the others are very negative towards it, even -if- a lot of Outcasts refer to them as "spirits".

Though I have no doubt some of you would enjoy seeing the Corsairs as a house and removing the Outcasts from the scene all together. Hur dur.

I voted for the criminal organization.

While they've developed a government still a large number of them make their living from robbing traders.
The corsairs and the outcasts too shows some house like elements, but the main reason why both of them
are criminal organizations in my opinion is that the pirates in their territory rob FOR the "house citizens" not
FROM them. Also they deal in sirius-wide smuggling, with the permission and encouragement of their leadership.
This is an example of what makes them different from common pirates.
