Idea: remove CD from GBs - BAD - not to use more harsh word
Idea: reduce speed of CD - BAD - they finally do what they meant to do
Idea: hire escorts - Doubtable - big trades with cargo hold more then 3000 should be easily pirated. Large profit makes can afford 1 or 2 mill for escorts. Smaller trader ships cant hire escorts (or they wont cause it will reduce already reduced profit)...
So this is what i propose...give mid size transports their speed back...let them fly 200 on thrusters again...with that they can easily outrun the GB...and fighters still can catch them easily.
With all transports with same speed, what is the point of smaller ships..they all can easily be pirated, they have less armor, less cargo space and make less money...only perk is that they cost less...
In real world comparison, van will be faster then a truck...
@Spear : yeah i know about the auto-fire feature but just as you suggest using it, others say "the key is to not use auto-fire". In my experience neither is in any way reliable.
@Exile : "use a smaller trader" would make great sensible advice if he CM had a better than 10% chance of working. Slow the CDs by half of what they gained and they're still going to be effective, just not "i win" buttons for pirates.
@Doom : I agree about the speed of smaller transports needing to be higher, these are supposed to be the smugglers and the blockade runners. BUT, the idea was to give these smaller ships CMs instead of a speed boost. However the worthlessness of the CM makes this balancing factor moot.
"To gain a hundred victories in a hundred battles is not the highest excellence;
to subjugate the enemy's army without doing battle is the highest of excellence."
' Wrote:f you want a trader which can avoid pirates, go fly something smaller. A whale or pirate trader for example.
I don't know about the Whale, but the Pirate Transport is one of the easiest transports to CD, even though it has a CM dropper. It's kinda short and stubby, with it's engines stuck off on the sides... An easy target. With a BW Transport I could sometimes manage to escape groups of NPCs when I spammed my Enh. CM... Impossible with the Pirate Transport.
I agree that some transports, maybe any with 3500 or less, should get their 200 thrust speed back. Of course, Igiss changed it because it didn't make sense that a big heavy transport could thrust that fast while gunboats, especially little gunboats, couldn't.
Also, the CD speed was increased a lot. There's room for it to be reduced somewhat without lowering it to the nearly useless speed that it was before. Maybe keep some CDs at a very high speed, while others (such as the Train CD) at somewhat lower speed (though not as low as it used to be).
THANK you, Drake. Also, Big transports should also be heavily armed...if you've got a big ship, you're going to make sure it has its own defenses... but that won't happen because that opens upuntold piles of balance issues, so lower the damn CD speed and make the Gunboats lose their excessive firepower >.>
EDIT: Missed your post, Exile, sorry. I'm not expecting an Uber Trader, the thing's a freaking brick. The turning radius is slightly smaller than Curacuao. It should, however, be able to run; it's not a Battleship. The thing is decently small enough that it should be able to run. No, the problem is the Cruise Disruptors. Great for the pirates, bad for us semi-smugglers, and I'm not trying to make this all about me. Heck, the Cash Cow almost became a Lux Liner again, but she's been a Train for months, and I intend to keep her that way. This affects anybody in a Transport, not just us in Teh Uber Haulers.

Transports doesn't need any more firepower. They are not an easy pray for fighters right now.
If you want do defend from gunboats, then trade in a gunboat/cruiser/bs :-)

what you are doing...is sitting still for pirates.
you have a 14k scan range, and thats about 7k of motion if they come head on.
you have plenty of time to move.
and...seriously.
engine kill.
you can't be cded....
you can cd them back, so they cant accelerate to catch you.
eppy...I really have no empathy for you....cause....all I see is you moaning...there are plenty of tactics for avoiding pirates, and avoiding them well.
you could easily set up your travels so that you encounter pirates only on your own terms.
as for the cerbs...well, they kill everything...and that is a beta error.
live with it for a week or two, it will get fixed.
also....transports just got their shields increased to 145%, and you are complaining?

If you're views held true, Eppy, The Queen Mary II modern cruise liner would have Depth Charges, Missile defence and a few good ol' shell guns to kick the crap out of people with. Or howabout the Massive SuperTankers you see? They should have orbital bombardment cannons, the way they're going these days.
a small gunboat with a few Torpedo's could easily take out a Cruise Liner or Supertanker these days, but they don't because the:
A) Shipping lanes are secure
B) The political fallout would be massive
If I saw, as a pirate in space only loosely controlled by the autorities, a massive ship containing riches to last me 10 years, 'course I'd go ahead and say "Your money or your life".
' Wrote:I belive CD stops engine-kill too, doesn't it?:)
uh...no....
CD turns off you cruise engine....nothing turns off momentum....
its a common tactic for getting through guard systems....
you get to cruise speed, and engine kill immediately, then glide to the next jh.
at speed.
