Allow me to restate what Cross just said.

Quote:Discovery Wiki is not official. Any information in it cannot be taken as canon or as approved and official information.

Igiss has spoken. Earth is no more. However, the light from the super nova has yet to reach Sirius. Meaning no one knows about it.

You can argue with a lot of the rest of us. The mod belongs to Igiss. If he says that's what happened - and he did - then that's what happened.

As for the rest of it - it simply makes sense about the Nom-nom's here trying to take over the humans. Because they CAN. You're not turning valuable real estate into huge piles of glowing gases. In the Sirius sector, the stars are a lot closer than with Sol. You make one of the stars in Sirius go pop, you're liable to affect nearby ones, and then you have a nice chain reaction, destabilizing ALL of the stars.

Oops... now where were we living at the time? Oh, yeah - on one of those pieces of real estate that we just blew up... I think the Nomads are smarter than that. After all, it's better to get a proxy to do your fighting for you than for your own people to go out and die as well, isn't it? These humans are warlike already - let's have them kill more of each other off, and then we'll come in and clean things up, taking over in the process. (I can just see a blue Monty Burns equivalent going, "Excellent"....)

Having studied original Freelancer lore at greath length, I find it odd that the wiki has been linked directly to the Discovery mod given the sheer amount of invented, non-canonical material present there.

On a similar note, I also find it increadibly amateur that a group of people dubbing themselves as a development team with a mission to remain close to the original Freelancer has produced so many elements that directly contradict a good deal of facts presented in the Single Player Campaign.

No one has ever confirmed the exact location of the Sirius sector and its distance from Earth; that I am aware of.

There is no Disco official statement on the matter and I don't think it was made clear in Vanilla Freelancer.

Again, take any information you see on the wiki with about a pound of salt. I've encountered numerous errors and a few instances of blatant miss information.

For the sake of closing this argument I officially declare that the center of sirius is 3000 lightyears from the SOL system.

Every one in agreement say Aye .. and lets move on.

I "like" how some people tend to speak for me, and better yet provide some sort of "explanations" I have never given, let alone specify "reasons" for this or that made in nomad lore. As for myself, I'll not provide anything right now and/or on demand, to each answer there is a right moment for. Have fun speculating, I know I'm having fun and good laugh while reading some truly hilarious statements made here, and few others made me think "mmm, that fella is quite close figuring it out". Keep digging.

Regarding wiki - it's not always a reliable source of information. Sometimes it may provide conflicting information. On occasion I've been unpleasantly surprised that some bloke edited pages directly relevant to nomad stuff, had to do reverts. Especially when someone PM'ed me asking a question and I was "what the hell are you talking about, man? where did you get it?" and was pointed at a section in article on wiki which was added/modified by a person I do not even know at all, let alone that person never spoke to me about his additions/modifications. I'm not saying that wiki is bad or anything, contrary to that I think wiki is a good thing, but sometimes there are wrong things in it. It is simply the nature of any publicly editable wikis. If it is vital for you to know - search forums too, and if none found - contact people who are responsible for the part of the mod your questions belongs to.

Gallics do

We have 817years after Sleeper Ships have reached Sirius. We have to add some FTL travel time +20 years?
Explosion happened quite some time after the Sleeper Ships fled Sol. I assume it was less than 100 years. I think The Coalition didn't wait too long to rip The Alliance completely.

So, if we look at the numbers, we see a problem:
817AS + 20 years (travel time) -100years(accident time) -500 years(distance) = > 200 years..

It looks like the light from the explosion has reached Sirius more than 200 years ago.
If we assume that it hasn't happened yet, the disaster of Sol had to happen more than 300 years after Sleeper Ships fled Sol, it doesn't make sense if we look at the long intro.

Why do assume that Sleeper ships traveled 500 light years in 20 years? It's called a sleeper ship so I assume people were in some kind of hibernation. It could have been much longer than 20 years.
Do we even know if the Sleeper ships were capable of superluminal flight? If not the light from Sun's explosion could have reached Sirius even before Sleeper ships got there.

We can assume that, because the ships disappeared after launch, what on base a convention used in SF movies, suggests they engage supeluminal / hiperspace speed. If they would not, they would have to speed up much longer.

of course, you are right. It could be 20, 100, 200 or more years, but it doesn't change things.

if the wiki states bull****, and we don't know where the Sirius sector is, everything is possible.
this however makes funny situation - The alliance didn't know where they were going to fly.
