No they don't. I tested it.

In order for me to blow up a Nova with a CD, I had to use a mine to detonate the Nova. Was a rather fun trick. Remove your enemies' shield. Make to ram them, then fire a CD, Nova, and mine together in very close proximity.

My solution for torps is the same as for missiles in general.

Make them take up cargo space - limiting the amount you can carry to less than 70 - maybe only a handful like a modern jet fighter. Poeple can then choose to forgo armour mods for extra ammo.

Remove missiles from gun slots - torp slots only. No more all-missile spams. Give ships an extra torp slot if needed.

Make them quite good and powerful. So they can finish a fight effectively if fired at the right time (and kill you equally effectively if you are unwise with them).

Powerful, but much, much more limited in what can be carried.


As for more variety - can a flak effect be made to go off in a radius effect? So imagine a 'cluster-bomb' style effect, where multiple flak explosions go off in an area for a couple of seconds.

Be good for a mine or medium-range torpedo.

Cool ideas Friday, it would just take a lot of work and a lot of testing and balancing. There's no way the dev team would ever take that on, not to mention there would be a lot of people against that.

Bring it up in 6 years when 4.87 is almost here?

Doing my own experiments - yes it is some work, but not as much as what you would think.

I never thought the devs would take on Turret and camera mods so soon (soon being relative to the next mod release), not to mention the other major tactical features slated for 4.86.

But they have, which means that they are looking to innovate and generate player interest with new gameplay features.

Sure there would be some people against the idea.

Remember though that current counters to missiles (dodging, CMs, CDs, lag) favour the selective and skilful use of missiles and torps, rather than spamming them.

This idea merely takes that to its limit - making such ordnance very effective, but making wasted missiles a greater loss.
