How to make official factions better?

Indies unbalance the game.

1: They have far less checks and balances placed upon them. They can, and do, run around in places thier faction tags shouldn't be, fly ships and equipment thier factions shouldn't, and role play however the whim takes them. I've seen Rhineland Gunboats in the heart of Liberty, Liberty Cruisers enforcing laws they made up themselves, and Corsairs Landing on Lawful bases. I'm not saying factions don't have these problems, but thier regulation keeps it to a minimum. People in factions do not want to lose rank or standing, and the threat of such helps moderate thier actions. The only moderation placed on indies is that which they place themselves and the few basic server rules.

2: Independants retard the role playing growth and evolution of the game. It is called ROLE playing for a reason. You pick a role you like, and play it. There is enough of a variety that everybody can find something they like. When indies take and say they are something, but then toss aside all the parts of the role they don't like, they aren't playing the role. In most cases, they are sacrificing role playing to achieve something in game mechanics. Take the rogues for example. I have seen all kinds of indie rogues, and I'm betting it's because they don't want to start out with the wimpy bloodhound type ships the faction requires. Well, it requires it because it's part of the Rogue role. By bypassing or discarding it you are playing outside the role, or playing ooc.

3: The current system rewards independents by allowing them to obtain equipment and to engage in behavior that players in the factions cannot. This is very definately not right, as it is the factions that drive the role play within the community that is Freelancer. Shouldn't the players who keep the community going by playing thier roles be the ones rewarded? What would happen if all the lawfuls in Liberty suddenly left the factions and subjected us to thier different and dissimilar views of Lawful Justice? Think about it, you aren't a police officer just because you buy a gun and a uniform. You have to go through the training, prove you are both physically and mentally fit for the role, and then gain the respect of your superiors and peers.

4: By limiting and/or negating the indipendant players abillity to achieve certain things, you encourage them to join whichever faction suits them best. Some will rebel, no doubt, and play only mediocre examples of thier factions. Those are still better than the chaos create by playing roles at odds to the ones they declare. And for those who refuse to play by the faction rules, well, they can still be a force within the game. Just because they can't get the best ships doesn't mean they can't have fun. A bomber is still a powerful ship, and a train still carries a lot of cargo. They can still have fun, pirate, make millions, they just have a lessened impact on the rest of us who will follow the rules and guidelines.

I think some are missing the point Cannon was trying to make. It is not to force Indies into Factions, nor is it to encourage complete ruling of them.
If I read the original post correctly, Cannon was suggesting ways to reward Official Factions.
Yes Independents are a vital part of this game & deserve respect, but lets face it. All of us at one point start out as a Independent. You fly along, make your way & profits from one way shape or form & play the game. Simple as that.

Official Factions have FAR more restrictions placed upon them. Running about , doing as you please is really not an option.
The running of a faction is not an easy task by no means. You have to apply even more role play, interact with other factions & groups ( as well as Indies ) to progress your story line, compromise with others to get things done, take criticism when you try to add to or make changes to a story line, keep up with & be responsible for the training & actions of your factions members. Take responsibility when they mess up. Limit your abilities as far as where you can go & what you can do all in the name of "fair & balanced role play" & set good examples for new players. Find a way to keep members interested in staying with the faction even though your limited by rules & conditions. & this all usually ends up in not giving you much actual play time.
I can only feel sorry for Admins who have even more to do & can understand why they get burned out so fast.
Giving Official Factions a few more rights & privileges I feel is very fair for all the efforts that have to be done to maintain said faction & the standards they have to reach to prove to the community they are worthy of being official. Not to mention the example they show to new players of how to play the game following the rules.

Well i will not say anymore. Let's all just make faction char's,and all new faction's, so we can get perk's,and do what ever we decide our faction will do. Then when there is no more Indie's? we can start telling each other what each faction can, and cannot do,and then after that? when everyone is gone, that last remaining faction can have the server all to themselves.

That is what all the "faction" player's want? is it not? to be overlord's over the whole server. Answer to no one except the admin's,and tell all other's they have to do as they wish,and only have thier type of fun.

No need to answer. i am done reading. I will wait and see what admin's do to kill the indie's now and be quiet.

refund me the 230 puls mil lfor my bc then out of your own funds then il ljoin the LN or LSF as when i join them il lnever get TO fly my ship because i dont fly fighters while your at it do the same for my order recon cruiser and corsair gunboat and freelance liberty gunboat(and thuss wil lnever get to the proper rank because of lag issues and the fact that fighter combat issimply to fast paced for me(and i know alot of peiple in my ballpark as well) on this mod)

yes there the majroity(the two year olds) but they will adot just enough of a veil of roleplay so there still two year olds yet cant be kicked out of there faction(i should know because i see it daily i just dont report it because i cant post screenshots for sanctions but i do tell the leaders of the factions im involved in)

if you strom(and the rest of the indie haters) worked with the ones that roleplayed alot of the problems thatcexist would be greatly deminished punish the ones who break the rules not the ones that play there part(ie me MB52 Tenacity to name a few of a rather large amount)

getting to your comment about bypassing parts of oles you dont like,what if your simply unable to use them (ie me with fighters or bombers) yet you need them to get higher in rank(ie samy me to get the fort Louisbourg back) then what,your wrongly limited because of something that is to often or not beyond your control( all the training in the world wont help me in fighters there simply to fast its like*pew pew pew=dead).

im a slower more Tactical thinker,more akin to an Admrial or a genenral not a fighter jock capitol class ships give me that style of play call me retarded call me slow cal lme whatever but unless freelancer allowsa a joystick fighters and bombers for me are out of the question.and you strom would drive me along with alot of other roleplayers away from the mod because they are in MY same boat

I am in complete support of Faction Leader IDs, as well as restriction of Battleships by the factions.

This is because in my opinion factions are much more likely to be disciplined than most any Independent player. When you are part of a collective, you have to act in a kind of way that represents your faction without hurting its reputation.

Why give official factions an advantage when they already have several?

This just reeks of elitism, and severely discourages independent players (this still is Freelancer, not Factionlancer) and independent factions.

If you want to make official factions better don't do it at the expense of everyone else.

Well, as an active player of the Freeworlds Mod, I would have to say, things are a vast improvement. And, you can start as a totally indie civ, or indie pirate. So no, you don't "have" to join a faction.

Joining a faction there only means that you'll receive faction benefits, i.e. ships, capital ships, ability to land on special bases.

Though, I agree that it isn't for discovery. I personally feel the better bases, maybe a special ship, and lower price commodities would work out very well. Then give factions the ability to OoRP blowup any tresspassers.

I understand what you are trying to do here, but the only way you can do it is by limiting the Indies access to something. No matter if you make something new for the factions or restrict something old, you have to limit the Indies access to it. If you want to encourage faction growth and participation you have to give them some kind of advantages over being an Indie. You have to balance the Indie ability to ignore faction limits, restrictions, and guidelines with something. I see no problem with limiting Indie ship tonnage and trade routes as a balance to thier freedom and lack of other limitations. Factions would have expanded routes, tonnage, and cooperation. Indies would have expanded range, equipment loadouts, and freedom of expression. That sounds fair, doesn't it?
