Gun effects:

I also think that some gun effects are too large, to the point of blocking your view.
Also some gun effects are a bit too high pitched with and sound a bit too much like "pew pew pew". I think some guns that sound like "pop pop pop" would be nice, that look and sound like today's guns.
Personally I dislike like blew colored gun effects.

Character Names

Some names are really oorp sounding, I saw a spyglass with a <3 in it, other names that spring to mind are "A.Happy.Zoner", "An.Angry.Zoner", "Falling.Lollipop", which I think were made for trolling people. Name policies shouldnt be too strict, but sometimes you can really tell a troll by the name and admins should discourage people from "role playing" like that, in one way or another.

Role play

Personally I like humorous role play, if its well within RP canon. I like crude stereotypes, but I know some people dislike it. If I were to place myself in one of Jinx categories, I would probably be the Woody Allan type.

People RPing as carebears for example are funny sometimes, but I still think it kinda messes up other people role play experience, so it shouldnt be done.

I think there are too many people role playing nymphomaniacs. Sometimes they really creap me out, especially when they are trying to keep that RP with you in pm. Makes me wonder if they are sexual predators sometimes, considering there are lots of kids here.

Furry Osiris captains... no thanks, just no. Wouldnt mind if admins forbid that, although it may sound kinda mean, since its probly just kids projecting some cartoon they know into discovery.

OORP-driven RP

This is what I get annoyed at most in discovery. Dont know if it got worse or if its just me noticing it more.

Its mainly people who tell indies to stand down and not gank the enemy. "Fairness" is always what they say drives them, but in truth its oorp friendships and trying to impress higher ups by doing them the favor of letting them win the fight by holding back people who are just doing their basic RP and helping their own faction, like any real person in that faction would do.

It annoys me especially when the enemy are actually highly trained pvp pros, who pop up right in front of Manhattan or other hostile bases, looking for pvp against noobs. Defending an ally is NEVER a bad sort of ganking. The pros are using the "fairness" argument to be unfair towards noobs who are no good at pvp. This is what ruins my experience mostly lately. Right now its even at the point where I enjoy playing with noobs (or maybe not noobs, but people who stay off the forums) in my team more than playing with veterans. Noobs (or forum abstainers) are mostly cooperative and nice, while a lot of veterans are driven by all sorts of disco-politics which is contrary to logical RP and layed back easy going gaming.

Suggestions
I think in summary, a lot could be done to improve immersion in the mod. Maybe a bit more lore and guidelines brought to players through bar rumors and infocards. To remove the disco-politics mixing in RP, I think a few things should be removed from the rules section. First, remove "rule" 0.0. It leads to more complaining as well as people brushing away complains with "rule 0.0 says dont be annoyed so dont be annoyed by what ever I do". Secondly, remove the part where it says official factions have the duty to insure "fair play". Most of the times this is used as a pretext to make your friend in the enemy faction win. Thirdly, make it clear that defending your ally against someone who attacked him, or against people who provoked you by flying in front of you taunting you is not a gank, its realistic role play. Mabe with an admin statement or something.

I have always treated my RP as if im representing a real living person in a real adult setting. So ive always taken it serious.

RP'ing realism is fun for me, and ill admit, i am at odds with folks who dont take things seriously. that for me, breaks immersion and verisimilitude - makes it harder for me to do my own rp.

Some things in the game do that for me too - it was always hard for me to rp a blood dragon, because while i love samurai lore and culture, i couldnt see it in disco - for me, disco\FL was embodied in the character i played for the longest.

But ive sense embraced other ideals, and am currently re'exploring kusari.

In any case, thats my answer.

As for the guns - the only thing that bothered me about them were the sounds - Hidamari's sound mod changed that.

This is a game. Real life is plenty serious for me. I prefer a good mix of serious role play with humor and lulz. You won't be able to force anyone to role play in a way you feel is realistic, because that is a subjective term.

I don't see any issue with how things are not past the way we treat each other.

And I like the way it is now, there are enough serious and good RPers around to make the server look like RP one. And the ones, who don't take the RPing so serious make the server more relaxed. I for example have no problem talking a bit ooRP with my last PvP opponent about what happened bla bla bla.

And to the 'fancy effects = mor lag' , dunno what you mean. If your computer/laptop isn't able to handle 2003/4 oriented effects, how do you play other games ? I sounds like the few effects of a 1 vs 1 or 2 vs 2 are killing your PC. I got a rather bad laptop and got no prob with the pewpew in Hamburg.

Well, some people only play FL on thier crappy comps:P

I only will have a problem with this.

1. EXACT FRAKKIN THING KARLOTTA HAS BITCHED TO ME. Only difference? Its you. I do my best to hold lolganks from ganking Core or Keepers. Why? Im sorry, its basic RP o go OMG NOMS DAI and try and shoot turbosquids with 3 caps and two snubs. Really? Thats just fine? You think the Keepers LIKE that? What about the Core? You think they LOVE 5829696429 Caps raping them?

So, because I have an OORP courtrsy to try and promote fair fights because I want to respect the other sides' want to HAVE FUN, Im a asskisser? Thats whats wrong. People who do that are not always trying to kiss ass and make themseves look good.

For example, me:
I try to keep people from ganking the Core to badly. I don't care for the Core. Yes, Im in 77th. Thats about it. I fly shared caps for kicks.
Keepers. I cba to do such an Application, nor am I patient enough for it all. I know they don't like having all these ships shoot them, when they'd have no chance to fight back much. And Nom RP doesnt appeal to me.*

Thats the main two I show an OORP courtesy to, because they are here to have fun, and its not always fun to get ganked.

Pro-PvP'rs:
Not everyome knows who they are, so unwittingly try and create fair matches, when in reality a slight unbalanced woulf be fairer.

*Before anyone asks about the LN and LSF, I don't extend it to them anymore. Except [LN].

I prefer a mix of silly and serious. I play ordinary (well, ordinary for the far future) characters who often cross paths with the wierd and wonderful that Sirius has to offer, and the results are often hilarious.
But to be honest, I like to think that the future will be a silly place compared to the present; i.e a catgirl would never become an admiral in the modern US Navy, but in the future where such things are relatively common (Catgirls at least- fashions change over time, right?) people think nothing of it.
