whats the reason for that? - why should a generic military not scan / arrest. he is lawful and part of the military. depending on the space he operates, he should be able to do the same things like a house military. - however, he cannot enforce the law of rheinland in liberty of course - and a generic military flying a rheinland cruiser should not try to enforce anything in liberty anyway.

but if everything fits in well ( military ID, liberty navy tag, liberty ship, liberty faction ) - there is no reason why someone like that would be denied the same rights.

edit: of course - one of those funny combinations ( military ID, BHG BC, Corsair tag ) should not be able to do that.

I'd go for a mixture:

Military allowed to enforce police authority, but not do regular police work - as in:

Only police allowed to scan traders, but even if a puny LPI smells cardi from a trader - nothing should be stopping an SA dreadnough from blowing that trader up should he refuse to drop the stuff and pay a fine.

However, if that dready was alone - nothing can be done unless that trader does something nasty enough for navy to roll in - like shooting an NPC or something

And while we're at Liberty - what about LSF... Since their the intel - a CIA/FBI hybrid - I'd allow them to scan and fine.

I think it should be limited. Hunting pirates and terrorists, protecting the civilians and traders of the state and even only being representative are job of the police and the military together, but hunting smugglers is normally a job only of the police (If the police calls in the military it shouldn't be any problem). In real life for example, no military force of the world is going to get some smugglers. They police and their special forces are doing that. But, if maybe a smuggler or terrorist has been declared as a "enemy of the state" or even when the police is not capable of getting him (or when there are many of them) the police could bring the military in.

I'm with Gronath

in an ideal world (with 300 player on the server) it might work with only police stopping smugglers. But as it is now there are simply not enough people around for that.

If it got implemented the Militaries would have nothing to do most of the time. So everyone will switch to police and fly fighters/bombers

But hey police bombers shooting down enemy GBs/Cruisers? Strange.. so you would need to have two characters and switch ever time....:(

---

on a side note.. I wonder how many people that voted/posted their ideas actually have a police/military character.

As a pirate (especially Outcast/Corsair) you always have something to do.. pirate traders, attack other pirates...move somewhere else.

As a police/military you very much don't. Especially if you are in a less populated area.

EDIT: I have military characters in 3 houses and 4 pirates in different factions. So I believe I know both sides a bit.

Not to mention that a Rheinland Federal Police faction would never be accepted by RM, at least; I don't think it would be.

I am also with Gronath. Would be nice to have enough players in every system to be able to say "Policemen, do your jobs. Military, do your jobs." but that's not the case. So in the interests of maintaining some law and order in certain systems, the military should be allowed to stop and search anyone in a hoodie.

I say Limited. I'm currently LN, and mainly scan for major discrepancies in ID and tag. I leave the cargo to the AI or LPI.

I voted limited. Basically, military is just higher up on the totem pole. They should have the same abilities as the police, and more. However, they should usually be doing other things than police work. Hence, their main function shouldn't be to sit by New Berlin and scan traders (which on most days is what the RM seems to be doing).

I voted limited too.

I think that it is really the police's authority when it comes to contraband. You don't see GIs walking around with german sheperds and looking through other people's bags.

We, however, cannot completely parallel this to the world of FL. In FL, crime is much more rampant simply because of the fact that there are so many criminals compared to lawfuls.
