"insufficient polling rate" is is not the case, dude.
Most players don't expirience any "mouse lag" with 60 FPS.

I never said it was insufficient. Just that the polling rate is higher at a higher framerate. Thus, more accurate. Whether you perform better with that higher accuracy or not is not relevant here.

Valid statement. There are some who do, however, including myself. Hence, I'm playing at a Dxtory-capped 120 FPS, vsync off.

I have noticed a really significant difference between playing on 60 FPS with V-Sync on and playing on 160 FPS (limited via dxtory, unless I forget to turn it on again by accident) with V-Sync off (nvidia drivers). There's some screentearing, yes, but also the mouse handling feels much better.
Didn't improve my aim though, but that's because I always suck at aiming, I guess, and I haven't played pvp enough to get into the improved handling.

Other suggestion on how to make the mouse handle better didn't work for me.

Either it is allowed to turn off V-Sync or it isn't. I don't see a rule against it, and people are using it quite frequently as it seems.

2.1 Following actions are considered cheating on server:

- Using non-Discovery mods, speed-related and loot-related mods especially, as well as using modifications that improve stats of items and ships;
- Changing account information and using any kinds of software that changes normal gameplay;
- Using any equipment not included for sale/looting in Discovery mod.
- Using equipment that exceeds ship specs;
- Cloning, e.g. creating new characters to collect starting money;
- Single player having more than one instance of Discovery open to fly their own characters;
- "Suicide Trading".

I think it falls under that catergory.

Well, so far the admins have not clearly stated that it isn't allowed, I guess it rather falls under "not changing normal gameplay" UNLESS when going over 180 fps. I don't think admins can check whether someone is playing at 60 frames or 160 frames per second. It is very noticable though, when someone goes beyond the jitter-limit.

If you don't jitter, it doesn't matter how high your FPS are at. Do you have an advantage? Yes, you do, aiming is way easier, but it's the same story with widescreen. You have an advantage over people who don't have it, yet it's legal.

I did some testing (in single player):
60FPS, V-Sync ON - a lot of mouse lag; cursor feels like it is sliding on ice; some amount of stuttering every 2-3 seconds
59FPS, V-Sync ON - significantly less mouse lag; also no tearing; no stuttering
120FPS, V-Sync OFF - lag is similar to 59FPS; ships appear to handle a bit better; a lot of frame tearing
~180FPS, V-Sync OFF - a bit less mouse lag than 59FPS; ships appear to handle a lot better; a lot of tearing
1920x1200 resolution, ATI GPU.

However, and this is a big "however", ships do NOT, in fact, handle any better. Actually, only the camera moves way faster around the ship, which makes the ship feel more maneuverable. In first person mode, there is no difference in response whatsoever (and something odd: ships do not roll at all when turning, unlike third person mode).
Personally, I prefer the "59FPS, V-Sync ON" mode. Also I cannot play multiplayer with more than 100FPS. Probably some connection related issue.

to play on discoverygc you must download a program written by cannon that will emulate as if you were playing on a 56k RNIS internet. To play on discovery it's also mandatory to play using a prebuilt computer made of a pentium 4, 1gb ddr2 and a radeon x1650. Along with this, you are only allowed to play on discovery if you use the standard issued keyboard and mouse (no laser, ball only). Of course, it is mandatory to play discovery on a 60hz 4/3 cathodic monitor with a resolution of 1024x768 in order to be fair to all players otherwise you will be banned.
