Holding onto new players is just as important as effort to bring them in, as someone who barely plays anymore it seems there's no evidence of such effort.
Somehow, making newly created characters to be easier to solely start off with would help players over the first few hurdles of disco.
There's an oasis of ideas if we'd brainstorm that as well.
Also correct me if wrong but I presume the requisite for Freelancer to install and play Discovery has a negative effect on hopefuls.
So basically: smaller galaxy, wipe, and (hopefully) larger server capacity? Also probably need to find even more methods to increase server efficiency. I mean is slot-camping still a thing? I've never seen a moment where server population has reached 200 peoples since I joined. But in the event that we actually do get more players that play during peak hours, you might wanna try making the game more server friendly.
Also another suggestion: New chars start in conn instead of penny, in an oorp enviornment and only use the /return command once they understand the meaning of roleplay (with the help of a player of course). otherwise they should just stay in conn. Think of conn as less of a pvp training ground and more of a general newbie training ground.
No atmosphere? GTFO.
The propeller is the greatest invention of all time.

No, Newbs will be disturbing people in Connecticut, and people in Connecticut will be making bad experience for these who see 24/7 first time.

I had to open the Discoinstall.exe with 7zip to extract DATA, EXE and other folders directly onto FL installation, because Installer asks for missing files of FL installation, which probably were removed by a vendor.
I`d go with an Installer, which does not check the consistency of FL, so it does not give up installation process because of missing readme.pdf file or so...
It would be nice to get some easy way to attract newcomers, even if I was one somewhat 4-5 months ago.
What I did was just read the rules once, check what you could do in the beginning (which for me was joining a faction that in this case was Nomads since I like aliens =3) and continue on from there.
Personally the rules take a bit to understand fully and realize but it's definitely not impossible or that hard.
And then what would attract newcomers really.. a community that is welcoming and that is helpful. Which in this case Angels were created to help them. (Though I don't know how active they are which could be a minor problem only)
Quote:I think there should be some incentive to join/create factions, it can't of escaped notice that there are very few tagged ships on the server these days and those mini-communities are important as they give a sense that you are flying about in a living world. Specifically the official factions, after all they are supposed to represent the House/Company/Group of their ID.
This also IMO will help activity somewhat.
Quote:Revamp the mod to not have countless of unnecessary garbage and annoying gimmicks cluttering you up wherever you go. Quantity is not equal to quality.
Well I can't say much for that since I don't know what you're thinking is garbage and unnecessary Doj but I probably don't need to know since you do.
Quote:It's also an idea for everyone (I'm not pointing fingers) to change their attitude to be less bitter. You can't say it enough, but Freelancer is a game. Stop complaining about every small thing the moment you get the change. Behavior like that just holds you back from actually playing the game for the sake of having fun, and others witnessing your complaining most often than not get annoyed, which even further corrupts the atmosphere of the entire community. Try being a bit more carefree, it works great for me for one.
But this especially. It's a reason some vets probably left because they didn't like change. Yet why leave, because change is eventually going to happen, like it or not.
And now lemme stop before going on a huge rant or 50 paged short story about random crap.
Let us not forget, they are vastly expanding the amount of /restarts available in .87.
A few thoughts:
1. Encourage newbies to come to the forum, where they can get help with RPing. part of the problem is some players never join the forum and participate. for example: the HW faction.
2. people could be a bit more friendlier.
Though on the flip side, the newbies have to be willing to get help with things if they need them. like help with RPing. If they just come on and do what they want, more 'experienced' players will get pissed off and things devolve into chaos.
Sadly I dont think new players really know the restart commands until someone points them that way. Maybe Penn just needs to be a seperate system similar to conn but for new beginners with a one way jump hole to the major houses or faction depending what they want to be (Not sure how the rep sheet would work tho) . Would just stop the mass influx of players just directed to Liberty and nothing else
Yes, Sab, both sides should provide reasonable amount of effort here, but sometimes it is just up to newcomers, who need just a little bit to grain roots, but that little bit of attention, care is lacked.
Also, to make things more mobile - why not to open a Skype channel, invite as many people as possible, to provide 24/7 "services" of help and FAQ?
The more people are in, the easier for everyone it will be.

And that is a good idea as well. Separate system (not excluding /restarts as well), neutral reputation for newbs, and seven gates to each house` capital system, just in front of base/planet (One way?). No limitation on OOC in system, etc...
Less what disco can do but players themselves, encourage others to join factions and groups.
As for newbies argument, newbies have the edge over veterans, in most cases you'll find veterans going against the system ( though newbies aren't a piece).
