If you had an RP led activity, people would feel there was a long term goal. As it stood, that had disappeared into the short term goal of killing the guy infront of you. That's great for a modern shooter. For an ageing game.....

Just how many of you actually used the PvP server back in the day?
It was always sparsely populated. The RP server always full. That's not supposition. That's reality.
When it was 32 players and then 64 and then...well, you get the rest. The numbers kept growing. The server was inundated with players. People couldn't log on for hours. Then the 'role' disappeared and so have the numbers. The 'character' became unimportant, the skill became the be all and end all. This alienated a lot of players because everyone has an imagination and then they had the freedom to express it, not everyone is an uber pilot.

This was compounded by the inability of the dev team to listen to well presented discussion which, whilst it affected main stream factions to a lesser degree, screwed smaller groups or granted them uber tech.

Whether you like PvP, RP or a combination of the two, the fact remains that the appeal of this has dwindled.
I for one sincerely hope that changes because it was, despite my grumblings, quite good here.

I've pretty much quit for now, and I was a fairly new player. There are a few reasons why I quit.

1- Somewhat boring. Maybe if certain aspects of the game were more dynamic it would be better. Like dynamic commodity prices, random NPC spawns, random NPC loot spawns etc.
2- RP is absolutely mandatory. This turns away new players for a few reasons. The main one being you can feel afraid to talk to people because you don't accidently want to go OORP. Some of us find it somewhat childish too. Like having an imaginary friend.
3- The lag is pretty bad at most times

These are the reasons why I quit anyways. It's just kind of boring and repetitive.

Naturally RP is mandatory, it's an RP server. However the intimidation factor is an interesting point, did any of the guides help at all, assuming you read some that is?

Deja Vu over here, all my characters are backed up, FL and Disco are un-installed until 4.87 rolls out and and by the looks of it none of the problems causing a falling player population are being addressed (also your point #1)
I first got into disco when 4.86 was released, I raged quit for 8 months due to the silly RP that was going on. Now that I look back at it people can easily use the RP aspect as a way and excuse to give new players a hard time and extort them regardless of the server rules and ID restrictions

Yes I read them. It can still be a RP server where people can choose to use RP or not and not be punished heavily for it. Right now I'm playing on a server for another game that encourages RP, but it isn't required. Makes for a game that's more fun. You don't have to worry about being OORP and getting all your gear/money taken away. It makes playing the game more relaxing, as opposed to being worried constantly about saying the wrong thing.

The game just needs some things to spice it up a bit. Some dynamic factors, maybe a completely overhauled loot system etc.

1. disagree , is ok the way they are now
2. agree , even a poor Rp , like i do
3. what ?

ohh , but i remember now .. haven't played for almost 2 months .. because of DORKS on server that are not even close beginers .

I'm so sick tired of trolls and rules brokers (because they know they have an admin friend ) that i just stoped playing . And also a lot of old players .

You know an admin/mod ? brake any rule you like , you won't get punished . You don't know any ? You will get sanctioned because those dork players will just rage report you . That is a fact . That's why activity droped , and keep on droping .

Enjoy the new players that jus avoid Disco after realising what this server became .

Enjoy Disco without old players .

Just enjoy .

Hey guys, and do you remember how it was in good old days? Give it a try?
Re-born the Dublin golden fever, for example, and other stuff that is not popular because of changes... All you miss is up to you to re-start actually. Pick up old factions, call back old friends if you need so.
I refuse to believe that you guys might give up fun that easy.

Being also pretty new (6 months?) I could drop some lines about how I am still having a blast and enjoy my time here, but instead I will just say that getting and holding new players is a community effort.

But unfortunately "some" "community members" prefer to be bitter on the forums, troll others and being just in general immature kids (no offense to the young ones) just in the middle of puberty instead of making said efforts.

Those could be creating threads to DISCUSS topics as Swallow did or making Youtube vids (advertising ones as well as tutorial ones) or just making your way to Penny/New York once in a while to take a newcomer at your hand for a while to help them getting started (that's what I do for instance, you don't need an [Angel] tag for that fyi) and/or picking them up in your faction if they are interested and help them that way finding a place to have fun this way and last but by no means least just being "excellent to each other" (including new players). That means no griefing, no trolling and no reporting/hard sanctioning obviously new people for minor rules broken, but instead trying to educate them ingame and on the forums ACTIVELY. If everyone would just spend a little of his/her time to do any of those points I'm certain there wouldn't be a need for this whole thread right now (Is it anyways?) and neither for any major changes in the game aimed at that whole "problem".

Also while reading some of the newer players posts I kept wondering if I am actually the only one who never had any issues which would drive me off this game yet. I never got put off by some silly things as getting trolled by GJ ID or getting pirated in Penny or getting pirated for silly amounts by totally silly "rp". I just denied any interaction and either got shot down or they left and then I just shrugged it off and went back to enjoying myself. Maybe that's a key for some who actually struggle with enjoying themselves here... don't get mad at stupid s*it. It happens -unfortuanetly-. But then again it does in pretty much every online game on this planet.
In League of Legends/DotA2 etc. you get leavers, trashtalkers, trolls etc. - and I would say on a way higher frequency than here.
In WoW you get also trolls, exploiters, imbalance, scrubs who talk like they weren't one.
In fps you get cheaters, high ranked players with better equip, boosters.
Yada yada.
Just grow a bit of a thick skin and show some effort from your side as well to be a part of the community, otherwise I doubt you would enjoy any online game for a long time anyways.

Just my random thoughts written down after finishing reading through this thread.

I almost crushed my nose facepalming this. Good joke is just too good. For anyone too young, Dublin gave New-York run for its money back in .85. EDIT: so did Gamma. Not saying it was bad thing though.

So, so true. Don't look at my join date, I've been here for at least 2 years before registering. Yes, I was one of those Guest readers. Thing is, it was fun to read. And play. I tottaly agree with what you said. Still, I can't even imagine how would it feel to be here for so long and see it crumble down.

To anyone who think RP is too 'childish':
I challenge you, give me 5 reasons why RP is more childish than WoW/CoD/WoT. It would be very interesting to hear your answer.
