I have it and I love it. Probably one of the best RTS games I've ever played.

You get a real sense of conquest when you're fighting an enemy, and the capital ships can really turn the tide of a fight. Often once things get rolling you'll end up attacking or defending with multiple capital ships, frigates, and support cruisers, and finally fighters and bombers. Very epic scale. Battles can last a long time when many capital ships are involved since they have abilities specific to their class.

The only downside is while I was playing online with a friend our empires were stretching across multiple systems and the game kept locking up and crashing after a while. It only happened in multiplayer though since the game runs flawlessly in SP. The problems were probably due to the fact that we both had capped fleets and we were having battles across multiple planets and against two enemies. I can see how it could be a processing nightmare when you factor in trade ships, scouts, battles, individual planet management, fleet management, etc. I'm sure it would run fine on a true LAN setup.

I have it, I suck, cuz I'm still a newb in this game, but give me some time and I'll get better:)

My best RTS/RTT games are World in confict, CnC General/3 and Sins of a solar empire.

My in-game name is always the same in everygames:P

I can;t wait to get my Hands on this game. I personally loved GalCiv2 and I know that this game will be of good quality. I'm going to get it sometime in the near future.

Heh one thing I can say I really don't care for in this game is the bounty and pirate system. During the course of the game pirates will attack in timed intervals, usually on the empire with the most credit bounty placed on their head by other empires. When you're just starting out, they can attack with twice the forces you have at that point, and all you need to spend sometimes is a handful of credits to get them to attack.

It might've been better if they made it so they would only attack your empire if a minimum of credits is reached on the bounty, so that you aren't so quickly outnumbered. Or at least to make it financially damaging to provoke pirate attacks. Even capital ships will fall to a swarm of 20 heavy cruisers when they have minimal backup. The worst part is you can't deter them once the announcement's been made that they're heading out.

Other than that the game's still great. I'm kinda hoping in the back of my head that some ship designs are adopted for use in Discovery, there's some pretty slick looking ships in Sins. Some seem like they would fit very well.

I been with stardock for a while i ordered Dread lords and Dark Avatar and beta tested them stardock does good work. I have not had the chance to look at their latest offering though.

The game is good but IMO dont get caught up in the hype.

I certainly do think its been vastly overrated. I also believe it is still a fun, solid game. But most places seem to think this game is the second coming of Jesus. In my opinion its a good solid space based RTS and thats about it.

I would liken it to a mix between Homeworld and MOO. It seems to take some of the better concepts of each, tweak it a bit and bam, theres the game.

The combat is very similar to Homeworld. Homeworld however had limited resources whereas Sins doesnt. You can build and build all day long. MOO had lots of development with planets, ships, diplomacy. Sins takes all of that, strips it from "Holy jeebus" deep to fairly shallow and away we go. The research and planet development are critical enough to need some paying attention to however arent half as in depth as MOO so you dont necessarily feel overwhelmed with it all. I feel they did a good job with it.

The serious letdown are, as stated above, the pirates and diplomacy.

The pirates. Ok, what the hell. This amounts to nothing more then mercenaries you can send after someone every 10 minutes. Thats it, nothing more nothing less. Its also a very powerful tool as the return on investment is pretty large. For 500 credits I can buy 1 ship, maybe 2 if there small (Cant remember right off). For the same price with the pirates I get a fleet of probably 15 ships that go after whoever. I just dont care for it at all.

The diplomacy. Everyone hates you. With Homeworld it was expected, and with MOO you geenrally started neutral. This seemed far more realistic then Sins, which is "Hey we found someone, lets kill them!" based diplomacy. So, whether you have 1 or 8 AI running they all starts off hating your bloody guts. And the only way to get better? Either pay their bribes or attack the people they dont like. That just doesnt sit well with me in a solar empire builder. Why the hell does everyone hate me? Locking teams solves that minor problem however.

TO sum up. Yes, its a good game with a solid gameplay. It takes the best aspects of Homeworld, MOO and Star Wars Empire At War (Space aspect) and merges them nicely while still keeping a light feel to the gameplay. You dont get overwhelmed with any 1 aspect (research, planet development etc) so it makes for a good game.

However, I also dont feel it deserves the ratings its getting. A good game, but one of the best? Not in my opinion.

I've played MoO. Oh, how I miss that game! It was one of those things from your childhood that you look back on as beautiful and magical and perfect.

I've tried to find contenders for it, like Star Wars: EAW, but they just don't have what I'm looking for. I prolly won't get this game though, since money is tight. But I will say I'm definately salivating over it. The Lore sorta turns me off though. I hate it when people start to make up words for their planets/races simply because its "new."

Look at freelancer, rather unoriginal in my view, but still a very good game.

"The thirteen saloons that had lined the one street of Seney had not left a trace. The foundations of the Mansion House hotel stuck up above the ground. The stone was chipped and split by the fire. It was all that was left of the town of Seney. Even the surface had been burned off the ground.
Nick looked at the burned-over stretch of hillside, where he had expected to find the scattered houses of the town and then walked down the railroad track to the bridge over the river. The river was there."

MoO = Masters of Orion.

Most Russian sites have neutral reviews about Solar Empire. One common drawback that everyone noted is that the game tries to be interesting and non-repetative by including space combat, but fails. Most time is still spent maintaining economy. What's worse is that most time is hours even for the smallest maps.

It's a solid game, but I didn't try it and won't. I don't quite like games that take many hours to complete a match, turn-based strategies in particular. And this one is real-time with the pace of turn-based. Such games may be very fun and addictive, but... well, match is over, you look at the clock and understand that you could play 15 Warcraft III games on Battle.net or a couple of dozen of various maps in UT2004 deathmatch and spend exactly as much time. What's better? you decide.

I just don't play the game Online(for the moment), I will wait for the next patch, Cause there is a major Balancing issue in it....
(You can own everyone with ONE single type of units...)

But the game is really well-made beside that, except the Chat lobby:D
The game will be at his full potential in the next patch
