The bit I've italiced is a good clue to whether someone F1'd out on you.

If they come back in the same spot and hail you immediately in system or local chat and apologise for their game or net crashing then they didn't F1 on you.

However, if they comeback (immediately or otherwise) and start running/shooting while saying nothing at all then they did it on purpose.

Thats how I see it anyway.

Just wondering- I did read the rules and know of course that F1ing is an illegal move. I don't exactly know what it is, but I am under the impression that you mean using F1 to disconnect in a fight or trade. But I was just wondering, is just simply pressing F1 illegal? And can you F1 to log out in space if you are not doing anything involving anyone or anything else?

It's legal when noone is interacting with you.

Also, simply pressing F1 (e.g. by accident when you meant to press Goto:P) isn't against the rules because it doesn't actually do anything - the game continues on regardless around you (the same as when you press Escape in a multiplayer Battlefield 2 game for example). It's using F1 logout during a fight that's naughty.

No longer active online due to a dwindling amount of non-PvP (trading, pirating, mining, etc.) fun in the new version.

I might be wrong with what I am about to say but anyway.

Ok lately there has been a few issues with the server right?

Well how does anyone really know if some has pressed F1 or if they have just been disconnected? To say you know by whether they log back in and apologise isn't right because why should someone apologise because they were disconnected?

Tonight I have personally been disconnected at least once every 5 or so minutes and unless the log files actually say whether someone logged out or was disconnected due to lost carrier or unresponsive client how can anyone safely say that someone has used F1 to avoid anything?

Yes there are some people that use this tactic a lot but I really personally can not understand why anyone would care if their ship was destroyed especially when they get it back when they respawn. (Yeah it is short the bots, and batteries, and ammo<?>) They aren't really that expensive unless you are using cap ships though.

This topic is a hard one as it is really hard to prove whether someone has used F1, and to tell you the truth it is really unfair to sanction someone that has not used this because it isn't like getting 50 million credits only takes a few hours (well maybe if you have no life u can earn 50 million in one day but most people have lives outside of playing online games)

Anyway I am not sure what the admins use to check whether someone has used F1 or not so I guess it is very possible that there is a way of knowing if someone is using the F1 tactic

Seems you don't get the point at all. If someone just get disconected he should just come back and say: "//sry i got disconnected, it is my wooden modem fault;\" and keep RP after.

Unfortunately in majority of cases it looks a way diffrent: trader is beeing pirated, then he suddenly disappear, 5-10minutes later he come back and like nothing has ever happened running away, and once again he get cought and while after "disconnect". Any doubt?
