Amen to that, brother.

You are thinking too much about this. The original creators made mistakes and disco inherited this. I don't know what they were thinking but things like the population numbersmake no sense. The extreme case is Leeds, look how bad it was and how few people live there.

The next time that the info cards of this planets neeeds an update the dev should consider add two ceros on planets the capital planets and some of the others. The next time, is not a priority to anyone.

PD: Our population have increase in 4 or 5 billion in the last century thanks to our technological advances, so from an inRP pespective it makes totaly sense a larger population.

Lets not bring discovery into discussion, it's lore is mumbo jumbo.
Interesting point about zoners too. I always saw them as traders myself. Traders who left the houses because interspace was controlling all the trade and asking for too much money in the process.

But when i think about it, it makes sense, all the colonies were more or less strict government control, for example the LSF found all the Freeport 7 survivors in a couple of days and they killed them all making it look like an accident. And you can find similar methods in other colonies, Rheinland regulates news, Kusari hates outsiders and has a feudal system, Bretonia has civil unrest from the mollies. Zoners had reasons to leave in search of a more open society.

The population numbers do make sense. Think about it, the colonists left Sol because of a war caused by overpopulation among other things. They arrived in Sirius and they had little resources to go around, there is only so much the sleeper ships could have carried with them, and the seeds they brought were probably used for planting, they could not afford to eat them. So they certainly had strict birth control regulations. Maybe one of the reasons zoners left house space too.

Overpopulation is just one of the many possible reasons to wage war, that is barely a plausible reason to have such low population numbers where a house capital doesn't even reach a billion. Low starting numbers aren't a good reason either, within a few centuries Houses can set up themselves to at least the level of present days' real life, where it actually makes sense to have billions populating planets.

I know that was their intention but our impact on the worlds enviroment is too large for to few people. Or you have the low population or the ruined worlds like Leeds. Not both.
